In 1991, Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar surrendered to authorities, but he negotiated a deal to be housed in a self-built prison called La Catedral. He served just over a year there before escaping in 1992 when authorities tried to move him to a standard prison. This led to a manhunt and, eventually, his death in 1993 at the hands of the Colombian National Police
Charles Boles, aka Black Bart, became a legend in California. He robbed Wells Fargo stagecoaches at least 28 times across northern California between 1875 and 1883, including several times along the historic Siskiyou Trail between California and Oregon
The remarkable thing about Bart: he always walked to and from the robbery sites. He was deathly afraid of horses, so he was on foot.
