Well here she is. ‘Baby, We’re Ascending’ is out everywhere today on Mute Records and I couldn’t be more proud. Thank you to everyone who has showed so much love so far. This is such a personal record for me and I’m so proud to share all the collaborators who were part of its creation.
I feel like this album is such an honest reflection of myself and is fill with love and chaos. Just like me!
I’m so proud of this track I made with Kai Isaiah Jamal, my dear friend and one of my favourite people. They are a poet, trans visibility activist and one of the most important voices of our generation in my opinion. This collaboration came about after many conversations between Kai and myself. We spoke about poetry, music, the (then) missing of clubs, the queer, Black roots of techno and the whitewashing of dancefloors. We bonded heavily over one record in particular, ‘Detroit is Black’ by Tiff Massey. Our love for this felt serendipitous and we decided to put our creative minds to work and Human Sound was born out of this. This track was then brought to life even further with the incredible talent of my dear friend Obi Franky. One of the most wonderful and talented people I’ve had the pleasure of collaborating with. And finally tied together with the strings arrangement (she also played every string on the album) by the most wonderful Quinta. This song is extremely important to me.
