My first pitch was to my own co-founder.

In 2015, Anubhav and I were on very different paths.

Although we had always wanted to do business together, his family wanted him to study for UPSC first.

I believe this is an issue many people face, as it's not easy to decide between following your passion and working towards a stable job and life.

Anubhav's heart was always in business, so he asked me to look for ideas we could work on. I asked him to come back, so we could find something together.

However, even though we found our idea for Chai Sutta Bar, he still felt like he needed to go back to his studies.

His family was not wrong, as they wanted their son to have a great future instead of working on something risky.

I pitched him the potential of the idea, and he knew it as well. Luckily, our idea worked. But hum lucky the kyuki humne yeh luck apni mehnat se banaya.

So, if you trust your idea, start working and make your own luck.

1 thing I learned while growing Chai Sutta Bar.

When you start a business from scratch, you get to learn a lot of different things.

Initially, being very young and passionate, I only felt that success in business meant money.

And of course, money is the very first and most important thing to make in a business. At that time, working, making money, and doing different things every day used to give me satisfaction.

But I remember the day when we successfully set up our 10th outlet; it gave me a very different feeling.

I have realised that when you passionately do something, it gives you a different feeling—a feeling of achieving a goal that you had set.

And this feeling doesn't come when you achieve something materialistic, but when you achieve something internal that gives you fulfilment.

Can only IIMs teach you business?

Maybe.

Or maybe not!

I see that many people and students think the only way to learn business is through IIMs. India is built of 1.4 billion people, with thousands, lakhs wanting to upskill. They cannot be the only option.

As an entrepreneur, I have seen friends succeed by attending both traditional and new schools that don’t have the tag of an IIM. They have learned valuable skills and are doing really well in their fields.
