Our New Podcast is LIVE! 🎙️

That’s right, we’ve officially launched our very first Torque Tips Garage Podcast this week! 🚗💨 We’ll be diving deep into car ownership, repairs, DIY tips, and much more. This podcast is all about connecting with you, our amazing community of car enthusiasts, and sharing everything we know (and continue to learn) about the automotive world.

In this first episode, Alex joins our host Jack for a fascinating discussion about the future of cars and the unique relationship we have with them. Alex shares some valuable takeaways at the end, so be sure to listen to the whole show – trust us, you won’t want to miss it! 🎧

Project Updates 🚗🔧

As usual, our garage is packed with exciting new projects and plans. We’ve been working on expansion efforts to bring even more content and resources to the channel. Expect new rides, fresh builds, and plenty of hands-on work coming your way in the upcoming months.

However, we have a small update regarding our Toyota Rav4 Restoration Series. We've hit a bit of a roadblock with the transmission rebuild. Turns out, it’s a bigger project than we initially thought! While we’re pausing the Rav4 series for now, Part 2 will be the last episode until we can get back to it. We’ll keep you posted on any updates as we move forward.

Happy middle of February!

We wanted to send out a quick update on our 2002 Toyota RAV4 (2AZ-FE, 4x4) project and the transmission issue we recently uncovered.

In Episode 7 (Part 1), we pulled and opened up the ECM after experiencing harsh shifting and transmission-related behavior that many 2001–2003 RAV4 owners have reported over the years.

As we dug deeper, we revisited Toyota’s Technical Service Bulletin (TC002-06), which documents known ECM-related defects that can trigger harsh shifts and transmission trouble codes like P0750, P0753, P0755, P0758, and P1760.

After removing and inspecting the ECM, the board appeared visually clean — no obvious capacitor leakage or burnt traces — which means the story doesn’t end there.

So what’s next?

Over the coming weeks, we’ll be releasing Episode 8 – Part 2, where we shift focus toward deeper transmission diagnostics and discovery sessions. We’ll be exploring whether the issue is strictly ECM-related, internal transmission-related, or possibly a combination of both — something many owners have unfortunately had to deal with.

If you own a 2001–2003 RAV4 with an automatic transmission and have experienced harsh shifting, we think the upcoming episode will be especially valuable.

🔧 This Week's Update: New Revival Project + RAV4 Update This Friday

Hey everyone,

We’ve got a fun update for you this week.

First up — we recently picked up a new revival project 👀 think, camping!

It’s not something we work on all the time in the garage, which makes it even more exciting. We’ll be sharing more details in the coming months, and we think a lot of you are going to find this one especially interesting.

Also, a new episode of our RAV4 restoration series drops this Friday at 5 PM EST.

In this episode, we walk you through:

- Reinstalling the freshly cleaned and fully dried carpet
- Putting the seats back in after Episode 1’s deep clean
- A full look at the mostly completed interior reinstall

The RAV4 is really starting to come together.

In the next episode, we’ll be diving deeper into the transmission. As we suspected, there’s more to the story — and unfortunately, there’s definitely something not right. We’ll break it all down soon.

🔧 This Week's Update: Episode 5 of the RAV4 Restoration Series - Engine Oil EPR Treatment, Oil Change + New Filter

We've been off to a busy start with projects for the new year and fixing up the garage cars and this week we're diving deeper into the 2002 RAV4 with Episode 5!



In This Weeks Episode:



We're tackling a complete oil change on our high-mileage RAV4 (237,852 miles!) using BG's EPR (Engine Performance Restoration) treatment. If you've never seen what comes out of an engine after running EPR, you're in for a treat – or maybe a shock!

🔔 New Rav4 Revival Episode Drops TOMORROW 🔔

Episode 3 of the Rav4 Revival Series goes live Friday at 5 PM EST on Torque Tips Garage.

This week was all about making real progress on the Rav4. We start by running BG 44K fuel system cleaner through the tank to help clean out the fuel system and see if it brings some life back into the car. While driving, we notice a hard clunk during shifting, which could point to a bigger transmission issue that we’ll need to investigate soon.

Things got a little messy along the way (including spilling a full can of engine degreaser in the back of the car), so it was off to the car wash. In this episode we:

Pressure washed the engine bay (carefully avoiding electrical components)

Washed and rinsed the interior carpet

Gave the Rav4 a full rinse to knock out years of built-up grime

By the end of the day, the Rav4 is looking much better and even feels like it has a bit more pep, but there’s still plenty left to tackle as the revival continues.

We dropped a Tool Tip Tuesday Short where we demonstrate an oil filter cartridge cutting tool. It’s an adjustable cutter that makes it easy to open cartridge-style oil filters and inspect the filter media for metal contamination, engine wear, and debris. Whether you’re working on a Toyota Prius, a ’73 Chevy K20, or anything in between, it’s a super useful diagnostic tool if you’re serious about engine health.
