John Fogerty
With a career spanning more than 50 years and an induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, John Fogerty is one of the most influential songwriters and guitarists in rock history. As the frontman and chief musical architect of Creedence Clearwater Revival, as well as a solo artist, Fogerty’s classic hits like “Born on the Bayou,” Proud Mary,” “Bad Moon Rising” and ''Centerfield” helped soundtrack a generation while paving the way for his lengthy career that continues to evolve and gain new fans.
In 2019, Fogerty’s milestones grew with his mammoth 50 Year Trip tour, including career highlights like a sold-out run at New York City’s Radio City Music Hall, a residency at the Wynn Casino in Las Vegas, and a set at the iconic Red Rock Amphitheater, which was the setting of a full-length concert documentary that featured exclusive interviews, performance clips, and archival footage.

I had the idea when John and I were sitting around thinking about his birthday. The Big 80. It’s what you do when such a milestone comes along: you start to wonder what the gift of a lifetime for this special day would be.
I knew firsthand how much it meant for John to get his publishing back. It has been so joyful and beautiful since this happened for him. I also knew how much his songs and music have meant to him. Having them taken away before they were ever written seemed so wrong to me. During those years, what should have been the most wonderful times turned out to be the hardest ones, with John walking away from his own music. Damn, they nearly broke John Fogerty. There was no way I was going to let his story end that way.
I thought, what would he want on this birthday that would mean the world to him? It came to me and I said, "I got it"! His Songs!! That's it!” Because had these recordings been put out after 1978, the copyright would have expired, and he could have filed to have them revert back. But since they were recorded before 1978, they would never, ever revert. That law seems so unfair to the artists who created music before 1978. Seemed pretty insane and unjust to me.
So this is John’s birthday present to his 80-year-old self. A celebration of his life’s work, and a rare example of the good guy/artist winning. He recorded his songs surrounded by family, friends, and love. It is the gift to himself and the world that will live on forever. It is his Legacy.
