Founded in 1907, the School for Advanced Research (SAR) is one of North Americaโs preeminent independent institutes for the study of anthropology, related social sciences and humanities. SAR is home to the Indian Arts Research Center, one of the nationโs most important Southwest Native American art research collections. Through our scholar residency and artist fellowship programs, public programs and SAR Press, SAR advances intellectual inquiry in order to better understand humankind in an increasingly global and interconnected world.

SAR School for Advanced Research
The power of language revitalization: "We should pollinate the garden everybody's trying to harvest from and more than that, show what a healthy social tapestry could look like. Not that anyone should be appropriating anyone else's culture, but we have a lot to learn from each other and lead the way for social and political transformation."

Today you can invest in the value of meaningful dialogue by helping to provide the space and time needed for scholars and artists to come together in productive exchanges. Your support means fellows in our programs are able to explore challenging topics, discuss critical social issues, and expand their own creativity.
Watch this three-minute video to hear from past resident scholars as they reflect on their time at SAR and on the power of collaboration.
