- Admission letter from a recognized German university/Studienkolleg/PhD program
- Proof of financial means (blocked account ≥ 11,904 € per year in 2025, scholarship, or declaration of commitment)
- Language skills: usually B2 level German (depending on program)
- Valid passport + filled application forms
🕒 Validity & Work Rules
- Residence permit usually granted for 2 years, renewable if studies not finished
- Work allowed: 140 full days / 280 half days per year OR 20h/week
- Student jobs (HiWi etc.) = unlimited
🎯 After Graduation
- Apply for a Job Seeker Residence Permit (up to 18 months)
- During this time you can work any job
- Once you find a qualified job → switch to Work Visa or EU Blue Card
- After 2 years of employment, you may apply for Permanent Settlement Permit (Niederlassungserlaubnis)
🌍 EU Student Mobility
If you already have a student visa from another EU country → you can study in Germany for up to 360 days without a new visa
Your German university must notify BAMF and authorities in the other EU state
