In ancient Jewish history, oil was a characteristic product of the Land of Israel and was used for many purposes, including: Food: An ingredient in food Cosmetics: Used as a cosmetic Fuel: Used as fuel for lamps Medicine: Used as a medicine Export: A major export in foreign trade Sacrifices: Used in sacrifices Investiture proceedings: Used in various investiture proceedings
Oil was also used to keep leather shields supple, and the expression "to oil a shield" became an idiom for "to make war".
The holy anointing oil, shemen ha-mishchah (שמן המשחה), was used in the ordination of the priesthood and the High Priest. It was also used in the consecration of the articles of the Tabernacle and subsequent temples in Jerusalem. The anointing oil foreshadowed the Holy Spirit, as oil was poured onto the head of those appointed, and the Holy Spirit is poured out onto the head of the Church.
Today me and my wife celebrated our marriage with friends and family, we have been married for 8 months, but were unable to hold a ceremony with our loved ones, today was a blessing from God and spiritual awakening for us.. Jesus has never failed us….
