It'a been months since I last played Pump It Up, probably because of some sort of burn out, but I have no plans on retiring just yet. Although I already planned on returning this month, I don't think I can fulfill that commitment. The reason? Let me give a long explanation:
When I moved to another mall to play in mid 2023, it was because of Phoenix. The newer mall (opened in 2018) that I used to play at (my videos from 2019-2023) didn't choose to upgrade the software of their Pump It Up cab (despite being an LX cab) so I was forced to move to another mall that has the Phoenix upgrade (NX Cab, been operational in that mall since 2011, but the pads have been upgraded, at least).
That mall has been around since its opening in 1997, 3 years before me and my family moved into the city because of my father's work, but it's still thriving. However, people started to have suspicions regarding that mall's competitive success despite looking gloomier and duller with age compared to newer malls that opened in the 2000s and 2010s.
You see, since around 2010s, there have been 7 (or 8) instances where people have been jumping to their end in that mall (sorry for my choice of words, don't want to be censored). The mall has a wide event center, and the upper floors are wide enough for anyone who has intrusive thoughts of jumping into the ground floor. The latest incident of a person jumping to his end happened last week as of writing this, at 9pm local time, the usual time for malls to close for the day. Among the attempted self-deleting attempts in that mall, at least the guy who did it in 2019 survived.
Because of those instances, the mall actually placed barricades (since 2019)in the upper floor levels (mall has 5 floors) near the event center to prevent anyone from jumping there ever again. However, despite those barricades, it didn't stop the incidents from happening, as proven in 2022, and last week, 17th of February, 2025.
Due to those 7 recorded incidents, people have begun to have supersticious beliefs that the mall may have been cursed, and that curse may what have driven those people to jump to their end.
Others say that there was a big Balete tree (balete trees are often believed to be inhabited by supernatural beings such as spirits) on the site of the mall, and cutting it down was what angered them, and had begun driving vulnerable people to their end as revenge for cutting down their home. Heck I've seen videos by people who worked in the mall claim that they felt something weird and creepy in some areas of the mall, as if someone or something was watching them, espcially at night.
There is another supersticious theory that has also been passed around lately: the mall's owners are behind it. They say that the owners allowed a malevolent being to inhabit the mall in exchange for the mall's success. However, it required sacrifices, and so the owners are apparently required to sacrifice humans there by making them look like s*****es, hence those people jumping, possibly due to being driven there by the malevolent being.
Whatever the case, I'm now afraid to go into that mall because of those 7-8 incidents (I said 8 because despite the reports that it started in 2013, I remember a successful attempt sometime in 2009). For now, I have to extend my break and force myself never to go to that mall for the time being. Sorry for the TLDR.
Note: I was a bit depressed during my university years in 2013-2014, and I would always go to that mall during my free time between and after classes, but I never had thoughts of jumping there. Maybe God was saving me from danger (even though I was an atheist from 2011-2022, returned to my faith for an undisclosed reason) back then. Whatever the case, hopefully there won't be any instances in that mall again.
Recorded incidents (mm/dd/y):
08/20/2013
03/07/2014
11/06/2015
02/11/2017
01/06/2019 (survived)
September 2022 (forgot which day)
02/17/2025
Additional note: If you have problems, please don't hesitate to seek therapy. Take care of your mental health as well.
Edit: Had to repost because posting this depressing and terrying post with my vtuber oshi photo might be insulting to my oshi. So I apologize for doing so, so I had to repost without any photo.
