The Appalachian Jack isn't a modern dream. It's inspired by a very old I-X-L pattern that incorporated a pry tip into the back spring. Legend has it that this pattern was often sold by tobacconists, so their customers could open cigar boxes - which at that time were made like small wooden crates.
