Most damage during freezes is not from snow/ice. It is from pipes, power outages, and heat loss. This is what actually matters to avoid very expensive repairs.

• Let faucets drip from hot and cold
• Open cabinets under sinks so warm air reaches pipes
• Wrap exposed pipes with towels, clothes, or anything you have
• Shut off outdoor water and cover hose spigots
• Know where your main water shutoff is right now

• Close off unused rooms and block drafts with towels
• Keep curtains closed at night and open them during the day if sunny
• Use space heaters carefully and never with power strips

• Fill tubs and containers with water before the freeze
• Charge phones and batteries now
• Keep your gas tank at least half full

• Bring pets inside. Garages do not count
• Protect cars and plants or bring them in

Large investors purchasing single family homes have made it more difficult for regular homebuyers to compete.

A proposal to ban large institutional investors from buying more homes would be a major change if it actually became law.

The big questions are how “large investor” would be defined, where the ban would apply, and what happens to homes they already own.

This could impact home prices, supply, and affordability. The real issue is whether this turns into a real law or stays a talking point.
