Very pleased to announce that the next episode will be on the 1975 John Milius film, "The Wind and the Lion"!

This is a pulpy adventure story about a Berber tribesman (played by Sean Connery) who kidnaps three American nationals, and the efforts of Theodore Roosevelt to free these hostages before his showdown with Alton Parker during the 1904 election.

The plot is very loosely based on the real life "Perdicaris Incident", an extremely obscure historical event.

We decided to watch this because it is one of Matt's father's favorite films, and we're so happy that we did! We highly recommend checking it out.

We should be done with editing probably sometime within the next couple of weeks.

During the second Calvin Coolidge administration (1925-1929), there were THREE famous Hoovers living and working in Washington DC. First was future President, Herbert Hoover, who was the Secretary of Commerce. Second was J. Edgar Hoover, who headed the Bureau of Investigation (which would later become the FBI).
And what other individual?

You may have noticed the Fighting Seabees episode is no longer on the channel. Paramount, the company that bought the rights to "Seabees" from Republic Pictures, felt that we used too much footage from the film for the video to constitute "Fair Use". As a result, it has been obliterated from the internet. It's a shame, because there was some really great and insightful stuff in the comment section.

The good news is that we've gotten assurances from Paramount that if we re-edit the video to feature mostly still images instead of video, we should be fine with it being considered fair use. So, if you missed it, be on the lookout for a slide-show version of "Seabees" coming out sometime within the next month or so.

A side-effect of this copyright drama, is that we're going to try doing more "history in general" episodes spaced between movie-based episodes. That's why the next episode will be one from the vault. We recorded a disgustingly long audio about the Mediterranean Theater of WWII many months ago, and now it's finally being edited into a video. It's a little less than half-way done at the moment, and should be completed within the next few weeks.

A word of warning, we spoil the ending of the 1967 film "The Dirty Dozen" in this ep. If you've never seen it, and don't want to get spoiled, we recommend checking it out in the meantime. It's a fine film.

**Update** Seems like the copyright claim on Seabees got lifted! Absolutely no idea why. But, we're not complaining.

If this bears out, this will be posted as soon as this evening.

Some bad news. The copyright appeal for "The Fighting Seabees" got denied for the third time in a row. 😩
I think the next best step is re-editing it with lots of still-images instead of all video. Hopefully that goes up within the next few weeks.

In the meantime, while waiting for appeals to clear, we've been working on the next episode after Seabees. This one will be a "history in general" episode about the Mediterranean Theater of WWII, and it will be a LONG (and good) one.

Our next episode will be on a truly fine film, "The Fighting Seabees". It's a WWII propaganda movie about naval construction battalions, aka "Seabees", in the Pacific. We had no idea what were were in for when we started watching this. I don't think any movie we've watched made us laugh and cheer as much while watching as this one. We can't wait to get it published for you all.
Editing is roughly halfway done. Barring any copyright appeal shenanigans, it should be out within the next couple of weeks. If you want to check out the film beforehand, it's available for rent on Amazon and Apple+

Sorry about the delay on the Wild Geese II episode. Still waiting for the copyright appeal to clear. But we will post it as soon as it gets approved!

In the meantime, we're already working on the episode after Wild Geese II, which is also going to be great!

Happy to announce that the next episode will be on Wild Geese II!

Remember Wild Geese I? If not, don't worry, Wild Geese II has almost nothing to do with Wild Geese I. Instead of being about middle aged mercenaries in Africa, Wild Geese II is about a bunch of violent criminals breaking Rudolf Hess out of prison. Why? That's a great question.

The film features Sir Laurence Olivier as a bucket-hat-wearing Rudolf Hess, Patrick Stewart doing a terrible Russian accent, a shirtless Scott Glenn, a plot that is nigh incomprehensible, and a wonderful performance by Edward Fox which almost makes the movie watchable.

We hope to have it published within the next week or two!

We're excited to announce that the next episode will be about not just one, but THREE fine films: Missing in Action, Missing in Action II: The Beginning, and Braddock: Missing in Action III. We will examine Colonel James Braddock's convoluted and temporally perplexing journey through the Vietnam War and beyond in one mega-sized episode.
We hope to have it posted within the next week or so. It's going to be amazing. We can't wait!

Pleased to announce our next episode will be on The Fall of Berlin (1950)!
It's an insane WWII movie about a cardboard cutout named Alyosha on a quest to make mashed potatoes out of a German man's house. He and his friends will awkwardly club many enemy soldiers, and kiss many, many male comrades on the mouth while on that journey. This is probably the most propaganda-y propaganda movie we've ever seen, and probably will ever see. Stalin was still alive when this was released and this film is the apotheosis of his cult of personality. It is no exaggeration to say he is depicted as a living god in this movie. It must be seen to be believed.
You can freely watch both parts of this film on the "FSUE Mosfilm cinema concern" youtube channel. DON'T watch it on the "Mosfilm" youtube channel. That version of the film has horrendously bad subtitles. Alternatively, you can buy the DVD version released on amazon by "International Historic Films". The screenshots below are from our DVD version.
