A Social Experiment in Community Engagement

Yesterday, we distributed invitations to all the villagers, inviting them to a meeting scheduled for 5 p.m. today. When I arrived at the meeting location at the appointed time, only the village president and vice president were present. They explained that turnout might be low but offered to arrange another meeting and invite workers from the NREGA scheme.

However, given the journey we had undertaken and the presence of students from IIM Trichy who joined us as part of their final-year project to study our initiative, we were determined to make the most of the day. Instead of waiting, we decided to reach out directly. We went from house to house, introducing ourselves and addressing the key questions people had:
• Who are we?
• Why did we come here?
• Why should they participate?

Each person we spoke to expressed interest and assured us they would attend. When we returned to the meeting site, we were pleasantly surprised to see over 60 people gathered. I then spoke to the group about environmental conservation and water management, tailoring my message to their local context.

After the discussion, the villagers took it a step further by collectively contributing ₹2,632 to support the initiative. Many also pledged to volunteer in the lake restoration efforts, showing both a financial and personal commitment to the cause. This experience was a testament to the power of direct community engagement and the willingness of people to participate when they feel genuinely connected to an initiative.

இன்று"கைஃபா ( Kaifa)" அமைப்பின் 225- வது குளமாக புதுக்கோட்டை மாவட்டம், அறந்தாங்கி தாலுகா, கோபாலசமுத்திரம், அறந்தாங்கி நகரில் இருக்கும், “தமிழ்நாடு அரசினர் பலவகை தொழில்நுட்ப கல்லூரி (பாலிடெக்னிக்)” வளாகத்தில் இருக்கும் (பண்ணை குட்டை) #மழைநீர்_சேகரிப்பு_குட்டை சுமார் 70Mtr க்கு 100Mtr பரப்பளவு கொண்ட குட்டை ஆகும் , இதனை “கைஃபா (Kaifa) கடைமடைப் பகுதி ஒருங்கிணைந்த விவசாய சங்கம்” மற்றும் “தமிழ்நாடு அரசினர் பலவகை தொழில்நுட்ப கல்லூரி முதல்வர் திரு S.குமார் அவர்கள்”, இணைந்து செய்யும் தூர்வாரும் பணி மற்றும் 300 நாட்டு மரம் மற்றும் பழவகை மரக்கன்றுகள், 1,000 பனை விதைகள் நடவு செய்வதற்காக பேராசிரியர்கள் & மாணவர்கள் அனைவரின் ஒத்துழைப்போடு தொடங்கிய மகிழ்ச்சியான தருணம்.
