Expressing her thoughts in a now-deleted post, Ranaut called for the prohibition of "hookups and polygamy," advocating for severe consequences, including jail time and hefty fines, for those engaging in deceitful behaviour in relationships. She also urged the government to introduce regulations mandating financial support for women abandoned by their partners after prolonged courtship.
Additionally, Ranaut proposed setting an age limit for sexual intercourse akin to the legal age for marriage, arguing that permitting sexual relationships among school-aged children contradicts efforts to deter underage marriages and hampers their psychological and physical development. She suggested that if there's an urgent need for companionship, adherence to traditional values could permit early marriage under certain circumstances.
However, upon realizing her misunderstanding of the Anti-Cheat Bill, Ranaut promptly deleted her Instagram stories without issuing any clarification.
The incident underscores the challenges posed by the rapid dissemination of information on social media platforms and highlights the importance of verifying facts before endorsing them, particularly for individuals with significant public influence.
The actual Anti-Cheat Bill, officially named the Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Bill, 2024, focuses on combating cheating in public examinations by imposing stringent penalties, including imprisonment and substantial fines, for offenders. It does not address issues related to interpersonal relationships or marital fidelity, as mistakenly suggested by Ranaut.
