HOT GEAR CAPE TOWN: RESPECT, ANTHEMS & A GOLDEN TICKET

So there I was—standing in front of a sea of small humans, in a primary school assembly in Ryterwacht, Cape Town. The topic? Respect. Which, incidentally, is something I’ve been shouting about since the dawn of time—usually while overtaking someone in a V8 with questionable manners.

Now, it’s been a while since I’ve done a proper school lesson. Years, in fact. Two decades of silence, getting to know how to be a responsible adult, and the occasional philosophical rant about why children should be taught how to reverse a trailer before algebra. But this—this was different.

The assembly kicked off with the national anthem. Goosebumps. Then at the end of it the school anthem. Double goosebumps. It was like being teleported back to a time when tuck shops sold ghost pops and teachers still had chalk dust in their hair. I hadn’t heard anything like it in over 20 years. And frankly, it was magnificent.

To everyone who tuned in to the channel to support—thank you. You showed up, and we’re showing up right back. In fact, we’re doing more than that.

We’re planting a golden collectable ticket. Yes, golden. Like Willy Wonka, but with less chocolate and more racing inducing madness. This ticket grants one lucky student a free go-karting session—with parental permission, of course, because we’re not total maniacs. And if they’re fast enough, sharp enough, and just a little bit cheeky, we’ll feature their lap time in a video to challenge another school. It’s a kind of Top Gear meets Grade 5 kind of competition.
