Review of Mario & Luigi Brothership
My Overall rating: 69/100
Mario & Luigi Brothership starts promisingly, but loses some of its excitement from the third area onwards. Only in a few brief moments does the game regain excitement, but it doesn't manage to keep it constant.
The game could have benefited from one or two additional small story objectives alongside the main story to keep players interested.
A key problem is the many islands, which often only serve as a setting for battles and dialogue and offer hardly any distinctive features. The focus on certain characters brings the world to life, but not enough so that the problem with the islands becomes apparent again. This problem could have been solved by adding more characters from the Mushroom Kingdom, such as Peach and Bowser, who could make the islands and the story more interesting. Example characters like: Professor E. Gadd, Toadsworth or even Broque Monsieur.
The new plug system replaces the badge system, but is too strong and simplifies the battles considerably.
In addition, there is no information on the number of ?-blocks in the areas, which makes the search more difficult. Annoying for 100% and completionist players
The numerous side quests usually offer only minor rewards and often consist of monotonous tasks, and there are too many of them, so they become annoying and add little value to the world. In addition, the time-bound quests are not clearly labelled when they appear, which makes it difficult to plan to complete all the side quests.
Overall, the game offers interesting approaches, but fails to create a captivating experience.
