Burn The Stigma with Tara Grace

We are here to break down misinformation, challenge outdated recovery narratives and advocate for harm reduction, drug policy reform and evidence-based treatment. For too long, stigma has fueled harmful policies, ineffective treatment models, and shame-based approaches to substance use. We are here to change that.
đŸš« No more one-size-fits-all recovery.
đŸš« No more abstinence-only ultimatums.
đŸš« No more blaming people for struggling in a system designed to fail them.
Instead, we focus on truth, education and real solutions.Whether it’s harm reduction strategies, exposing the rehab industrial complex, or pushing back against the war on drugs propaganda, we are getting to bottom of it all.
📱 Speaking out isn’t negativity, it’s necessary.
If you’re ready to challenge the status quo and burn the stigma surrounding substance use, substance use disorder and recovery, hit subscribe and join the movement.

Read this if you think harm reduction services keep people stuck.

Desiree Auge thank you for sharing and giving me permission to share.

“The first time I ever started thinking about treatment was when I went to a syringe service program. The staff made it easy to talk about ANYTHING. They didn’t judge or push. They answered questions honestly and fact-based. No one told me I needed a meeting or said ‘well first you have to stop using.’

That’s when I realized I didn’t have to hit rock bottom to get help. I just needed a safe place to ask questions and think about change without being shamed. You can’t heal in an unsafe environment.”

This is harm reduction.
Not “enabling.”
Not “loving people to death.”
Not “encouraging drug use.”

It’s safety, dignity and real human connection. And there is data that supports this. The CDC’s official position on syringe service programs (SSPs) includes this statement:

“People who use SSPs are five times more likely to enter treatment and three times more likely to stop injecting drugs than those who do not use SSPs.”

People will swear harm reduction “keeps people using,” when in reality many people’s first step toward treatment happens in harm reduction spaces.

* Disclaimer: While harm reduction can increase treatment engagement, the goal of harm reduction is not to push people into treatment. Harm reduction exists to keep people safe and alive, regardless of whether they choose treatment, moderation, safer use or no change at all. Treatment is one possible outcome, not the expectation.

“At least they keep trying.”

That is the response to a person having dozens of 24 hour chips and keychains.

People don’t need more “keep trying.” They need options. And they need encouragement to try other options. They need something more than a drawer full of white chips and key tags that only end up being used against them. People are told they didn’t want it bad enough, that they couldn’t get honest with themselves, that they weren’t willing to go to any lengths, etc. etc.

But I don't see a lack of effort. I see a person who kept showing up but never got the help they actually needed. Multiple attempts don’t mean the person didn’t do enough. Many times it means there’s a mismatch between what the person needs and what the “help” provides.

Trying isn’t the issue. Not having enough access to approaches outside one ideology is.

Burn The Stigma with Tara Grace

If you’re seeing family over the holidays and they don’t agree with the path you’re on, I just want you to remember this:

You don’t need their approval to be on the right track.

You’re allowed to choose a healing path that actually works for you.
You’re allowed to heal in your way, on your timeline, even if it looks nothing like what they were taught to believe about “real recovery.”

A lot of families only know the outdated fear-based stuff they were handed. So many family members become victims of the dogma too. But their misunderstanding is not a reflection of your worth or your progress.

If you’re building a life that feels safer, healthier, fuller, more stable, you’re doing something brave.

Protect your peace.
Redirect the conversations you don’t owe an explanation for.
Take breaks.
Text a friend who “gets it.”
Come comment over here if you need some encouragement, I’ll check in as often as I can.
Step outside, breathe, ground yourself.
And most of all remember that your path is valid 🙌

You do not have to shrink yourself to make other people comfortable with your growth.

You can walk into that room exactly as you are whole, deserving and moving forward.
And for what it’s worth proud of you.
Keep going đŸ„ł
