Rabindranath Tagore (1861–1941) passed away 6 years before India’s independence, yet his ideals shaped the soul of free India.
He protested through his pen — promoting Hindu-Muslim unity during the 1905 Partition of Bengal with Raksha Bandhan, and rejecting his Knighthood in 1919 after the Jallianwala Bagh massacre.
Though he did not see a free India, his vision of unity, freedom, and humanity became the foundation of the nation.
