According to YouTube stats, in the past month, 51.6% of my viewers are women and 48.4% are men.

It’s surprising to see such a balance when most channels on the platform lead heavily in one direction.

Two days ago I released the longest video I've ever made. Instead of producing a course and breaking it up into several videos, this long-form video has allowed me to build up theory and develop it all within the same video. For education on YouTube, particularly with academic subjects, it seems like this method is more beneficial to serious learners. I thoroughly enjoyed putting it together and going through the content.

Could I have made it 8 hours with substantially more exercises? Sure. But the point is to get the material into your brain as efficiently as possible so you can think about it and apply it to other linguistic phenomena. Perhaps there will be a follow-up at some point that focuses more on exercises and other languages.

Expect longer "course" videos for linguistics-related content. There will still be shorter form content for smaller topics and non-linguistics related material, but I thoroughly enjoy doing lecture style material that can help students succeed in academia. I think these long-form videos will also make for great final exam review.

Does lecture-style material do well on YouTube? Not so much. But that's okay. Free quality education is important. "Pop" videos just don't do it for me. More importantly, though, is free access to linguistics-related material, which lags far behind the mathematics and science sphere on YouTube.

Audio issues are fixed tomorrow. I’ll fix the other ones after the series is complete.

I’ll probably do more casual videos about teaching experiences, educational opinions, and general academia talk. I’ve been a voice behind a black screen for nearly 8 years. I think it’s time I throw my personality back into the channel.

Teaching videos are still the primary focus. Although linguistics isn’t learned or needed much worldwide, I find it very fun to teach and explain. I love patterns. Language has many patterns. That’s my focus right now.

Math will still come.

Plans!

I have a semester off from teaching so I plan to continue with statistics, probability, and some calculus 3 videos starting in January. They will probably still be sparse, but free content will never cease to exist from me.

In other news, www.TrevTutor.com is relaunching through Teachable. Everything on YouTube remains free, while there will be some online courses in the works with extra videos, text lectures, practice exercises (worksheets) with solutions, and exams to test your skills. There will also be personalized coaching services available in very limited capacity.

It’s a new venture, but I’m glad to be able to do what I love for a living, and I hope to continue to support those who are dealing with all of these course topics the best that I can.

To those who no longer need these resources, I really hope they’ve helped you and I appreciate you for letting others in that same situation learn about these resources.

For those of you who have enrolled in my university courses and seen me live, I appreciate all the comments. You keep me going and loving this job.

Thank you to everyone who made this happen! I was a little undergraduate when I started, trying to fill in the gaps in discrete math and linguistics on YouTube, never thinking many people would watch this stuff.

It’s been a while since we hit the milestone but the plate arrived today. I look forward to continuing and evolving the channel and my style for y’all!
