New video coming Sunday, November 2! We're filing a flight plan for southern Pennsylvania and western Maryland in search of some fall color and mountain views. Along the way we'll stop-in at Virginia's Grass Patch (VA62), Pennsylvania's Greater Breezewood (P17) and Somerset County Airport (2G9), and Maryland's Garrett County Airport (2G4). It'll be a great day with some amazing scenery, so come along and join the fun!

Q&A Wednesday: Just got this question from a viewer today. "Did you do your flight training in Northern Virginia?"

Answer: Sure did! I did all of my flight training with AeroElite out of Leesburg Airport (KJYO), a great school with awesome instructors. Took me about 9 months in all to get my PPL thanks to weather delays. Many, many weather delays. In fact, the forecast for my check ride day - scheduled weeks in advance - was looking downright horrible. The day before I was supposed to go (which happened to be gorgeous, naturally), I was at the office when my instructor suddenly called, telling me the DPE just had a hole open-up in his schedule and could do my check ride that afternoon if I could get to the airport immediately. So I ran out the door, jumped in my car, and headed directly to KJYO from work. With no time to change, I ended-up doing the check ride in my suit (though I ditched the jacket and tie). As the pic below shows, it all worked out just fine, and the DPE even commented that I was the best-dressed student he'd ever passed.

Have a question of your own you'd like answered in a future Q&A Wednesday? Drop it in the comments below!

UPDATE: With the weather forecast taking a turn for the worse, I unfortunately won’t be able to make it to the Leesburg Airshow today. While the rain itself isn’t a major problem, the threat of low clouds presents a serious safety concern. Bummed not to be there, but looking for another chance to connect in person soon. Enjoy your Saturday!

Sam will be on display at the Leesburg Airshow this Saturday from 11:00 to 4:00, weather permitting! Stop on by to say "hi," check out some cool planes, and enjoy incredible aerial performances (not by me 😅). Admission is free! www.leesburgva.gov/departments/parks-recreation/ev…

Q&A Wednesday: Had a few folks ask if I had any trouble with security flying into Bridgewater Air Park (KVBW) in the Shenandoah Valley video (the airport’s home to a large government contractor).

Answer: It was a non-event, and if I didn't know better, I would've just assumed I was talking on the radio to a friendly person at the FBO (though note Bridgewater doesn't have an FBO, or any public use facilities at all besides the runway). In fact, they have a Virginia Aviation Ambassador stamp there -- just let security know on the radio you're looking to get your passport stamped and they'll direct you where to go.

Check-out the video of my (very brief) interaction with security at KVBW over on Facebook: www.facebook.com/share/v/16Wpdrz89b/
