The focus is on building charging infrastructure and supporting electric buses in key cities. An additional Rs 500 crore has been allocated for hybrid ambulances.

A study will be conducted to gauge demand for electric buses in cities with a population of more than 40 lakh, including Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Surat, Bangalore, Pune and Hyderabad. Intercity and Interstate electric buses will be supported in consultation with state.

Notably, there is no provision for electric or hybrid cars under this scheme, as highlighted by Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw during the announcement.

Through a PowerPoint presentation, emphasis was laid on the need for efficient urban transportation. The challenges faced by women and other vulnerable groups due to gender-blind urban transport were also discussed in detail. During the discussion, the teachers present shared their commuting-related problems, and the students participated actively through their questions. Harit Safar advocates for a sustainable, inclusive, and urban transportation system.

We're thrilled to share that our recent workshop, "Evidence to Action: Decarbonizing Urban Mobility in Uttar Pradesh, Harit Safar Campaign," held on August 24, was a huge success! This workshop provided a unique opportunity for 50+ participants, representing various organizations, to rethink their approach to mobility issues and how they intersect with daily life.

Our esteemed speaker, Mr. Chintan Daftardar, Program Head - Transport, WRI India.
Ar. Prasanna Desai, Architect Urban Designer & Professor & Director, PVP College of Architecture, Pune. Ms. Shaheen Shasa, Co-Founder, of Bengaluru Bus Prayanikara Vedike. and Ms. Ekta Shekhar, Director of The Climate Agenda shared valuable insights on:

- Effective planning and execution strategies for sustainable transportation projects
- The importance of data-driven decision-making and understanding key numbers
- The crucial role of local support and community engagement in driving change

Notably, participants acknowledged that this was their first opportunity to engage in such an impactful discussion on mobility, marking a significant milestone in their journey. With this workshop, we hope to elevate the mobility discourse in UP and Bihar to the next level, inspiring a new wave of change-makers.

Without ambitious policies, emissions could double by 2050 due to rising demand for mobility and goods transport.

Implementing bold measures could cut energy demand by 30% and CO2 emissions by 60% by 2050, aligning with India’s net zero carbon emissions goal for 2070. Enhanced air quality from reduced transport emissions also offers substantial health benefits, with measures like Bharat Stage (BS) standards and vehicle electrification potentially reducing NOx emissions by 15-20% by 2030.
