Join our family, on our property in the Dandenong Ranges in Victoria, Australia, where we have lived for over 15 years, as we share how we garden, harvest, preserve (canning, dehydrating, freezing, etc), ferment, solar cook, produce our own energy (biogas and solar), raise livestock, and much more.
We’re passionate about sharing on the skills and knowledge we've gained over the years, as others have shared with us along the way.
Please remember: While we share our experiences and the methods we use, it's important to ensure that whatever you do is safe and suited to your own circumstances. Always do your own research to gather all the information you need to make informed decisions.

We have very few pumpkins that have grown this year. Not even one butternut. Most of the flowers across the season were male.
Although there are few, we will still have pumpkin.... as this one is growing into a whopper!!!!
I will be sharing more on this (and all the ups and downs of this growing season) in this Saturdays virtual garden tour video. Don't forget to set your notification bell, so you can see when has and hasn't gone well, in what was quite a tough growing season.

Did you enjoy the Aussie Summer Harvest and Preserving Series? I would love to know what was your favourite? (Unfortunately the poll options are limited in number, so I had to group the last one.)
Your comments will really help us understand what ones we make that are helpful to include in our shares.

That's the end of Summer... and the end of our Aussie Summer Harvest and Preserving Series.
Hopefully you enjoyed our videos sharing:
- Pickling and Fermenting Cucumbers
- Using cherry tomato abundance to make fermented bruschetta
- Harvesting and extracting honey from our hives
- Preserving beetroot
- Freezing zucchini
- Making blackberry wine
- Preserving Berry and vanilla jam for the shelf
If you missed any of the videos and still have some of this produce coming through, hopefully they can help your squirrel some away, for when they are out of season.
And having these now on the channel, hopefully they provide a good reference resource for the future too.

If you’ve ever wondered how honey is harvested on a small scale for family use, you might really enjoy tomorrow’s video 🍯🐝
We’re sharing our latest honey harvest — taking the frames out of the hive and extracting the honey straight from the comb.
It’s such a rewarding process and something we love being able to do ourselves here on the property.
If you’re curious about backyard beekeeping or just love seeing where real food comes from, this one’s for you.
We are still having issues with our YouTube videos being shared by YouTube, so if you are interested our shares, we would love you to subscribe and turn on notifications so you don’t miss it when it goes live. The % watched through and interactions also makes a difference. It really does help and we appreciate it 💕

If you’ve been enjoying our video shares, tomorrow’s one is definitely worth turning the notification bell on for 🔔
First up, we’ll be introducing our new Summer Harvest & Preserving Series 🌿
This is something I’ve been really excited to share. It focuses on the staple foods we grow and preserve here on the property, so we can enjoy them well out of season. We’ll harvest together and preserve using our usual methods — canning, dehydrating, freezing, fermenting and more.
Then we’ll head down for a wander through our bush for a chat about Aussie homesteading content. YouTube isn’t always kind when it comes to sharing Australian creators, so I’m hatching a bit of a plan for 2026 to see whether 'we the people' can help influence the YouTube algorithm to better support the many amazing Aussie channels out there.
I set it as a premiere video, so we will be there live while it runs, to answer any questions. I really hope you enjoy it and the series to follow 😊

I just did the test many people asked for, to see if the gamma lids from the new food grade buckets we got fit on the old buckets. In short...Sadly not.
I also heard back from Kegland on the shipping feedback, but included everything in a quick 3 min video, as it would be an essay to type out.
I know there are many of you waiting on this info and I hope it helps.

EXCITING NEWS ALERT! (Set your YouTube notification for our YouTube channel to not miss our video at 6 PM tonight!)
Those of us who have bulk food storage, know the struggle: getting those tight lids off! 😩 Its something in this community we have chatted about for a long time.
Recently I was lamenting to Kee whilst picking up some supplies and he said they had similar issues in the brewing space and would look to see if it was a product they could make available for us customers here in Australia.
Well, the struggle is officially over! Tonight at 6 PM, our bonus video is all about the exciting arrival of Food Grade Containers equipped with GAMMA LIDS here in Australia!
These lids are a huge win, making bulk storage accessible and easy—a game-changer for us and hopefully for others to.
And here’s a great extra bonus: The supplier is giving our amazing Bush Edge Homesteading followers a generous 30% OFF DISCOUNT on these buckets and lids! Until the end of the year.
Disclaimer: We are not affiliated and don't get anything, but we are absolutely thrilled to try these and share this opportunity with everyone keen to upgrade their storage system too!
Make sure your notification bell is set for the video drop at 6 PM to get the details and the great discount.

YouTube has some new functionality for us, so we can chat and engage... like we do with Facebook.
I currently share lots of the things our family gets up to in between videos on our Facebook. Let's see if this new YouTube functionality can create the same sense of Bush Edge community, for those of you who aren't using Facebook too.

When we shared our last homemade bacon making video, I mused that it would be great to do a nitrite-free version. There were comments that asked us to capture and share a video on it if we did.
And very recently we did exactly that, and that video will be ready for you tomorrow morning.
But instead of just making nitrite free bacon, we wanted to compare side by side with using a commercial nitrite containing cure.
So tomorrow's video is a side by side test on making a nitrite free bacon vs using commercial cure.
Which do you think we found better?

Over the years we know some of our videos have been what we call 'a bit rustic' 😆 And we have received some comments along the way about improving things like the editing and sound.
This was difficult working with the things we had. As our YouTube only makes a few hundred a month, it takes a while to build up to buying new equipment to make it better.
BUT... we now have the new computer for editing... which doesn't crash when editing... woo hoo!!! 😁😁😁
This has allowed us to use a few more of the editing features like adjusting sound, cutting out bits and transitions, that used to crash the old one repeatedly.
I am curious if between me FINALLY working out the microphone and the editing, is it improving your watch?
