Hey all - I wrote up some of my thoughts on favorite moments on the album here, thanks for user @Holi_Uu for asking. Read on if you don't mind a little self-indulgence!
-------------
I'm most proud of Generator x Short Circuit, especially the first ~2 min when the tracks are riffing off of each other, I like to think it's kind of inspired by a jazz standard where the musicians take turns solo'ing. This was the most complex track to arrange - nearly all elements you hear are recreated from the synths they used (*not* sampled from DP or J), and juggling the style/key/rhythm/etc between everything, switching drum beats, writing the synth and bass solos, it was a fun challenge. I wanted this combination to work so badly (and not just because of the "power" pun in the names of the two tracks). I'm also super proud of the ATW breakdown section (Short Circuit-style synth playing ATW chords arranged like the Short Circuit chords), and the final drop which I think is the heaviest part of the album.
Second place "most proud" would probably be TV x Chorus. This is a simpler track for sure, maybe the least amount of complexity from an arrangment standpoint other than the A/B sections like in DANCE/DigitalLove. However, this was an idea I had pretty early on and didn't really make work until late into production. I was banging my head against a wall trying to get it to sound good, gave up 2-3 times, and then one day it just clicked. The buildup and drop w/ Skitzo Dancer is one of my favorite parts of the album.
other fav moments :)
- the final buildup and drop of Afterimage
- Justice in the house / DP is in the house yeah
- all the parts w/ Technologic
- the nearly 3 minute buildup on Stress
- the intro on GLBTM
- the pianos on Veridis
- the last drop on Waters x Robot
- the piano breakdown on AVD x HAA
- the rhodes intro and the Cola Baby sample manipulation on Neverender
some other fun facts:
-Ohio x Starboy is the earliest idea I had that made it into the finished product. I completed a demo that resembles the final track on 1/22/2022
-There are 3 tracks that had a completed demo and were either cut from the album or completely redone from scratch, and tons of other partial demos that were scrapped
-The only "must have" track on my list that didn't make the cut at all is Derezzed - I had probably 4 different ideas built out but it just didn't work anywhere imo
-DVNO vocals on Phantom x Aero were the final thing I did arrangement-wise, just a week before release. I'm still on the fence about whether that was a good idea, but DVNO was the other "must have" track I had on my list that wasn't there until the last minute, and I didn't want to regret not adding it.
