28 years ago on April 24th, 1998, Rockman & Forte (Mega Man & Bass) would release for the Super Famicom where it was developed at Capcom, with it directed by Hayato Tsuru & Manabu Takemura, produced by Keiji Inafune, artwork by Hitoshi Ariga in his series' debut, music by Toshihiko Horiyama, Akari Kaida, Naoshi Mizuta and more.
Part of the Classic series, it was conceived by Inafune as a means of getting younger gamers into the franchise who hadn't owned a PlayStation & Sega Saturn at the time and would reuse characters & sprites from Mega Man 8; speaking of which, taking place after that game, Rockman/Mega Man is once again thrust into action as a new powerful robot named King steals the blueprints of Dr. Light & Wily's creations in order to make an army of robots to dominate over humanity all while Forte/Bass plans on defeating King to prove himself as the superior robot over Mega Man, though the two form a truce to ultimately defeat King.
Gameplay wise, while Mega Man's playstyle was mainly unchanged from prior entries, albeit lacking Rush's upgrades & functions, Bass however, can double jump, dash jump and shoot in seven directions though lacks a charge shot, as well as the game having an item shop run by Auto where the player can buy items, with Mega Man's being made up of improving health & defense, while Bass' revolve around dexterity and new shots, as well as having over 100 CDs in the game to collect, each of which containing data on many characters from the Classic series.
While the game got good reception, its' main criticism would came from the very high difficulty, especially when playing as Mega Man due to his aformentioned drawbacks. Though this original version was never officially released outside of Japan, unofficial fan translations of it were made, and eventually the game got an official release outside of Japan in 2002 & 2003 on the Game Boy Advance, though this version was worsely received due to the zoomed in screen making already difficult parts of the game harder. Aside from a followup on the WonderSwan in 1999, subtitled Challenger from the Future, Mega Man & Bass was the last new & major Classic entry for nearly a decade until Mega Man 9 in 2008.

Happy 30th anniversary to Metal Slug: Super Vehicle-001 for the Arcade! Running on the Neo-Geo MVS hardware and developed by the now defunct Nazca Corporation as the successor to Irem's GunForce II, it would not only bring over many of that game's staff including Kazuma Kujo as game designer, Akio who helped provide the game's iconic high quality sprite artwork, composer Takashi "Hi-YA!" Hiyamuta and more, but also be both a unique spin on the run-&-gun genre and go on to be one of SNK's flagship franchises along Samurai Shodown, Fatal Fury & The King of Fighters!
In 2028, many years after an ongoing war between the Regular & Rebel armies begun and after the Regular army's special vehicle known as the Metal Slugs to give them a edge in the conflict are taken by the Rebels, Marco Rossi & Tarma Roving of the Regular Army are brought into action as they both not only fight off the enemy forces led by General Morden, but gain back the stolen Metal Slugs and prevent Morden from making the world government into one under military control!
You play as either Marco & Tarma as you shoot your way across six levels, fighting enemy soldiers, vehicles etc. all while you can also free prisoners of war that can give you different weapons like the Heavy Machine Gun, Rocket Launcher, Shotgun, Flame Shot and even extra grenades, gain items to add to your score, and piloting the titular Metal Slug armed with vulcans & grenades, all before making it to the end of the stage to fight & defeat the boss! With its' insanely addicting & challenging gameplay, great music & spritework, humor and more, the original Metal Slug is still one of the greatest games of all time!
Aside from ports to SNK's own systems like the console AES, and Neo-Geo CD (which introduced the Combat School mode), the game would get many ports and rereleases, such as for the Sega Saturn, PlayStation, as well as emulated releases via the PS2/PSP/Wii as part of the Metal Slug Complete/Anthology, Wii Virtual Console, Android & iOS, PS3 & PSP PlayStation Network via the Neo-Geo Station and the most common being the Arcade Archives/ACA NEOGEO series for PlayStation 4/5, Xbox One & Series S/X and Nintendo Switch. Finally, Marco, one of the game's two main characters later became a playable character in Neo Geo Battle Coliseum for the Arcade, PS2 & Xbox 360.

10 days belated, but 19 years ago on April 7th, 2007, the anime adaptation of Blue Dragon debuted on TV Tokyo where it ran for 51 episodes until March 29th, 2008. Based on the Blue Dragon RPG series by Mistwalker Corporation which was created/produced and composed by Hironobu Sakaguchi & Nobuo Uematsu (Final Fantasy) and character designed by the late Akira Toriyama (Dragon Ball, Dr. Slump, Chrono Trigger, character & monster designer for Dragon Quest etc.), it was animated at Pierrot, directed by Yukihiro Matsushita, headwritten by Akatsuki Yamatoya, anime designs by the late Tsuneo Ninomiya and music by Uematsu alongside Megumi Ohashi.
It follows a boy named Shu, who one day has his village being attacked by unknown enemy forces and as he and his friends Jiro & Kluke fight to defend it, a mysterious woman in Zola appears and after a battle with the armies, Shu, Kluke & Jiro all receive the powers of Shadow, an ability that allows them to transform their shadows into a powerful monster to fight; after later being joined by Marumaro, a Devee, and the cheerful girl Bouquet, Shu and his friends, as shadow wielders go on an adventure to not only to defeat the enemy army, revealed to be the Gran Kingdom led by Nene who aims for world domination, but also seek out the Extra Seven, seven extra pages from the original Book of the Beginning that can aid the shadow wielders into becoming stronger as well as ways to seal & unleash the Darkness.
The anime would do well to receive a followup second season from 2008-2009 subtitled Trials of the Seven Shadows, merchandise & and a plug & play game system from Bandai, and even the two later Blue Dragon games, Plus & Awakened Shadow adopting from the anime into them.
In the West, the series briefly ran on Cartoon Network in 2008 as well as having a partial DVD release from Viz Media, though now both anime seasons can be streamed for free online on TubiTV.

10 days belated, but happy 30th anniversary to After War Gundam X! Debuting on TV Asahi on April 5th, 1996 following Wing's conclusion, the third alternative universe series & seventh TV anime in the long Gundam series by Sunrise would bring on the Brave series' Shinji Takamatsu as director and also screenwriter Hiroyuki Kawasaki, character designer Nobuyoshi Nishimura who previously was an animation director on Wing & character designer for Zone of the Enders and Xenogears mecha designer Junya Ishigaki alongside the famed Kunio Okawara and more!
It takes place in After War 0015, years following a devastating event known as the 7th Space War which was waged between the United Nations Earth & the Space Revolutionary Army and ultimately led to a massive colony drop on the Earth resulting in untold destruction & many of its' population being wiped out leaving only 98 million people left on Earth; the anime follows Garrod Ran, a Vulture who makes a living off of salvaging parts & equipment from before the war started, when his life takes a turn when he gets hired by a mysterious man from the Alternative Company to rescue a girl named Tiffa Adill, a Newtype, from the Freeden led by Jamil Neate, and after a battle with enemy mobile suits where Garrod pilots the Gundam X and unleashes the lunar satellite powered Satellite Cannon, Garrod along with Tiffa, Jamil & the Freeden crew as well as fellow Gundam pilots Roybea Loy & Witz Sou all fight to not only prevent Newtypes from being exploited, but also stop another war from breaking out! Easily one of the best entries in the franchise!
Sadly, Gundam X would ultimately be cut short after 39 of its planned 49 episodes due to declining ratings and multiple timeslot changes, though despite this, the show would be well received both in and out of Japan, with it placing 5th in the 1996 Animage Grand Prix for Best Anime and gain a cult following over the next three decades and would also receive two followup manga in Next Prologue in 2018 & Under the Moonlight in 2005. Finally, while not having any dedicated games of its' own, X was in various entries of the G Generation & Gundam VS. games, Real Robots Final Attack, Another Century's Episode 3 & Portable and even appearing the Super Robot Wars series, debuting in Alpha Gaiden in 2001 alongside Turn A Gundam.

A day belated, but happy 30th anniversary to Hell Teacher: Jigoku Sensei Nube, the 1996 anime! Taking over the timeslot of the anime adaptation of fellow Shonen Jump manga Slam Dunk and airing on TV Asahi on April 13th, 1996, Toei Animation, director Yukio Kaizawa, writer Sukehiro Tomita, the late designer Yoichi Onishi and more would take on the hit manga series of the same name by Sho Makura & Takeshi Okano, which itself mixed supernatural horror, comedy & even school life!
It follows Meisuke Nueno, nicknamed Nube, a homeroom teacher of Class 5-3 at Doumori Elementary that has more to him than what may seem, as he's a very skilled exorcist that protects the town & school of Domori from many supernatural threats & problems by using either neogotiating, appeasement or in some instances do battle by using spiritual powers or using the Demon Hand of which contains a powerful oni named Baki within his left hand, all as a means to keep the school's students safe all while Nube not only deals with their various hijinks, but also various yokai he encounters over the course of the anime including Tamamo & Yukine, and even his romantic advances towards fellow teacher Ritsuko! One of Toei's all time best, especially from the 1990s!
During its' run, the show would receive three theatrical films one in June 1996 and two in 1997 and after the show's end in
August 1997, a followup of three OVA episodes were made from 1998-1999, as well as the anime getting a game for the PlayStation in May 1997, in addition to Hell Teacher Nube being represented in both 2006's Jump Ultimate Stars & 2013's J-Stars Victory VS., of which featured Nube as a playable character and its' Plus/+ release marked the franchise's debut in the US & Europe. Finally from July 2025 to March 2026 of this year, a second & recent Nube anime would air on the original network TV Asahi nearly 30 years after the original, this time being animated by Studio Kai, with Ryotaro Okiayu & Toshiyuki Morikawa reprising their roles as both Nube & Tamamo, respectively.

Happy 30th anniversary to B't X, the anime! Debuting on Tokyo Broadcasting System on April 6th, 1996 and based on the manga of the same name by Saint Seiya creator Masami Kurumada, TMS Entertainment would bring Arslan Senki OVA director Mamoru Hamatsu, character designers Hideyuki Motohashi & Eisaku Inoue, mecha designer Hirotoshi Takaya and composer Akira Senju to deliver one of the studio's more underrated anime in the form of an action adventure Shonen with elements of sci-fi and mecha!
Taking place on an alternate version of the Earth, where the Machine Empire rules over a part of the Gobi Desert known as the Area and has made many advancements in technology, the series follows Teppei Takamiya, a caretaker at a farm on Kamui Island near Japan, who vowed to his brother Kotaro, who went to Germany to study robotics, that he would be a "man who shines light onto the world" and five years later as the two brothers reunite, Kotaro gets kidnapped by a mecha from the Machine Empire, with Teppei planning to save him, but gets beaten by Machine Empire general Metalface; as the bloodied Teppei is thrown into a junkyard, his blood makes contact with the Break Heart of a mechanical winged beast named X who is a B't and the strongest one created by the Machine Empire and as the two link together as Teppei becomes X's donor, Teppei, armed with not only his Messiah Fist & its' Battle Gear and X with the Guard System, both set out to rescue Kotaro, fight for the human race's survival, and prevent the awakening of the ultimate B't, Raphaello! One of the best anime of 1996 for sure!
In 1997, B't X would receive a followup in the form of a fourteen episode OVA in B't X NEO, with the staff replaced with Hajime Kamegaki as director, Yoshiyuki Suga as writer, music by Fumitaka Anzai, & Motohashi joined by Futoshi Higashide & Noboru Koizumi, with the OVA diverging from the manga to tell its' own story & conclusion.

A day belated, but 28 years ago on April 4th, 1998, Yu-Gi-Oh! (1998) debuted on TV Asahi where it ran for 27 episodes until its' end on October 10th of that year. Fan nicknamed among Western fans of the franchise as "Season 0", it was loosely based on the first seven volumes of the manga of the same name by the late Kazuki Takahashi as well featuring original elements, it was animated by Toei Douga (being both their last anime under the old name before becoming Toei Animation, and one of their earliest digital anime), directed by Hiroyuki Kakudo (Digimon Adventure & 02), headwritten by Toshiki Inoue (Death Note, Dragon Drive, Changerion & various Kamen Rider & Sentai series), designs by Michi Himeno & the late Shingo Araki (Saint Seiya) and music by BMF (Hell Teacher Nube, 1996).
It follows Yugi Mutou, a student at Domino High School who often gets bullied, but has a love of games and as such is solving an ancient Egyptian artifact known as the Millennium Puzzle that will hopefully grant his wish of making friends; when it gets completed, another side of Yugi awakens within him known as Yami, a spirit that resided within the puzzle and Yugi uses this as means of challenging those that endanger his friends into various "Shadow Games", where those who lose are granted a Penalty Game which is various punishments and over the course of the show, Yugi takes on many new opponents awaiting him, including Seto Kaiba who not only become's Yugi rival, but also sends out four "Game Masters" to face off against him.
Though the show has yet to be officially outside of Japan, preservation and fansubs of the show's VHS releases from Toei Video were made by fans over the years. Aside from the anime itself, the show also spawned the first, short lived Yu-Gi-Oh card game from Bandai, of which while highly unsuccesful compared to the later card game by Konami, notably marked the debut of Red Eyes Black Dragon, who later went on to be Jounouchi's signature monster in the main series. The show later received a theatrical film on March 6th, 1999 alongside the Digimon Adventure pilot film & Doctor Slump: Arale's Surprise Burn, where the film not only marked Red-Eyes' animated debut, but also was the only anime in the franchise to be traditionally cel animated. Lastly, two games from Konami were made both using designs from this anime series, the first being Monster Capsule: Breed & Battle for the PS1 in July 1998 & Duel Monsters for the non-color Game Boy in December, the latter going on to be one of the best selling Japanese games of 1998.
Its' timeslot on TV Asahi would later be taken over by Toei's own adaptation of Mamotte Shugogetten!, while future Yugioh anime would be animated by Gallop (up to VRAINS, as Bridge took over starting from Sevens) and produced by TV Tokyo, Konami, & Nihon Ad Systems, starting with Duel Monsters in April 2000.
