The Flamenco Coach

Hi dancers, I’ve been working on something very special since July…. The re-do of my signature online course Become A Bulerías Boss 🎉

I knew it would take a while, and it did… but now it is done 😃

To celebrate the new and improved version of my course, I also recorded a brand new Masterclass – where I share 3 foundational keys for improvising easily

These are the step one, do not pass go, do not go to Bulerías classes, if you don’t know these 3 things first

You can go, you just might struggle that’s all, and there’s no point to that if there’s a free Masterclass going around to save you the hassle

If you do sign up to the Masterclass you’ll also receive a special limited time offer for the new and improved course – so if learning how to improvise has been on your to do list for 2025, this might be the sign you need

And… another sign, its Black Friday so now I want to do a Black Friday deal - if you enter code BFBOSS2025 at checkout, there’ll be a surprise discount added as well!

I’ll drop a link to both the free masterclass and the new improved course below

Happy Black Friday to us 🖤

The Flamenco Coach

Hi dancers,

If you’ve ever wondered how does a Fandangos work, you’ll want to be a part of my Facebook group ‘Fun with Flamenco’ because right now we’re getting started into a deep dive all about this palo

We’ll be looking specifically at Fandangos de Huelva, as that is the most common one for dancing. I’ll be sharing how the singing works, how the timing and compás works, what’s typical for this palo and anything else that is interesting about this palo

I’ve already shared a couple of dances from my very past archives – exclusive footage of a couple of my own performances from years gone by… swipe below to see a sneak preview of these on the last two slides in this post 🤗

If you haven’t yet joined the group and you want to see what its all about, here’s the link to join:

Hi dancers, I’ve taken a little break from posting YT videos because I’ve been working on a special project in the background… and I needed more time to dedicate to it (its almost finished..)

Something I keep getting asked to do, and also something I’ve been wanting to do ever since I started my YouTube channel 6 years ago – is teach how to dance flamenco 🎉

I did start out on this path, and even created a course called Sevillanas Made Simple teaching the first copla of Sevillanas

But then I branched out into teaching how to improvise for Bulerías Por Fiesta, and stayed there 😅

Well, earlier this year I decided it was time to get to work on my original dream - creating an online dance studio teaching how to dance flamenco 😀

The very first course is for Brand New Beginners and its almost complete...

But I couldn't wait any longer to share it!!

INTRODUCING

The Flamenco Coach

Ever wondered why all Alegrías letras sound the same? Even when they have different lyrics?

Its because the cante (singing) in flamenco follows a structure

There is room for some variation, but for the most part the singer will follow the ’typical’ pattern..

Let’s look at a traditional letra por Alegrías

This letra has 4 lines, we’ll call them a – b – c – d :
a – A cai no le llaman cai
b – que le llaman relicario
c – porque por patrona tiene
d – a la virgen del rosario

The singer will sing these lines in the following pattern a – b – a – c – d – c – d :
a – A cai no le llaman cai
b – que le llaman relicario
a – A cai no le llaman cai
c – porque por patrona tiene
d – a la virgen del rosario
c – porque por patrona tiene
d – a la virgen del rosario

The caída (resolve) happens on line d – so make sure to listen out for the drop in tone here. Line d is sung twice, and both times the singer will resolve

Want to listen to this letra in action?

You’ll find it in this video at 0:57 – 1:28 👇🏼

The Flamenco Coach

Hi dancers, I'm enjoying creating my latest video series, which is discussing the parts of the dance while we watch an actual dance - aka learning the structure of a baile

So far I've posted videos on the palos of Tangos and Soleá

🤔 What palo would you be most interested in learning about next? I'd love to know 😍

The Flamenco Coach

Hi dancers, are you not 100% sure on what the parts of the dance are, when it comes to a complete flamenco baile? Like the ones you see danced in tablaos, the ones that go for 10, 12 sometimes 20 minutes?

Understanding the parts of the dance is one of the ways that you can connect to flamenco more deeply, to have intention with your steps while you’re dancing and emit that to the audience, so that you feel something when you’re dancing and so does the audience – I think some people might even call that duende!

If you need a simple explanation on the general structure of a baile, or you want to see it explained using an actual dance, check out these two videos I posted – links below

Enjoy!

The Flamenco Coach

Hi dancers, I recently created a brand new PDF guide ( and its free to download 👍🏼) called
“What No One Tells You (But Should) When You Start Flamenco”

I’ve put in there the tips and tricks I've learnt over the years that unlock some of the secrets to fast tracking your flamenco journey, and help to improve your dancing beyond just learning steps and doing drills

Even if you’re not completely new to flamenco, you may still want to find out what I think are the foundations to getting ahead in flamenco 😃

Here's a link to the guide if you want to check it out:

The Flamenco Coach

Hi dancers! Well, I’m back from my break 🥰 somehow 2 months break turned into 3 months… oops 😆

Part of it is that I have been working on some flamenco projects in the background. Check my next post for one of them..

This post, however, is to celebrate the video I just uploaded, and I think it’s a goodie – especially if you are someone who is struggling to understand the parts of the dance, aka the structure of a baile

In this video I break it down into relatable concepts – and I’m sure you’ve not heard it explained this way before

The best part, is once you have this general concept understood, learning and making sense of the nuances and details of the structure for each specific palo is going to be so much easier

If you watch the video, I’d love to hear your feedback in the comments! Let me know if the way I’ve explained it has been helpful. Or not. I can take it

Chat soon 😊

The Flamenco Coach

Hi dancers, one of the best things about flamenco, IMO, is it gets better with age!

Usually the narrative around dance is that its for kids, or its "just a hobby"

I know I've had to work on changing my mindset around these kinds of opinions

But unlike some other dance styles, flamenco really has no age limit

Quite the opposite - it gets better with age 🍷

And so I put together a few well known flamenco dancers, over 50, who are still dancing and performing. Olé!!

If you're thinking you've left it too late to learn, or what's the point of dancing I'm not a kid anymore - stop that and just know:

You’re not too old, and its NEVER too late!!
