The Flamenco Coach

Hi, I’m Belinda 👋🏼

After more than 40 years of flamenco dancing and performing, I now focus on explaining the parts of flamenco that often get skipped, assumed or never properly explained.

On this channel, I'll help you make sense of how flamenco actually works.

→ How the dance is put together
→ How to hear the compás
→ The conversation between singer, dancer and guitarist
→ And all the little things that suddenly make everything click

Because once you can recognise what's happening, flamenco becomes much less intimidating.

If you've ever thought,

"Can somebody just explain this properly?"

...you're in the right place.

The Flamenco Coach

If you've ever found yourself secretly checking the dancer next to you to see whether you finished on time...

...this one's for you.

One of the biggest reasons dancers struggle with compás isn't that they have "no rhythm."

It's that nobody has ever properly explained what to listen for.

When you begin recognising the signals in the music, you stop feeling like you're trying to solve a puzzle in real time.

You stop wondering, "Was that right?"
You stop hoping you somehow landed on the 12.
And you stop treating every escobilla like a multiple-choice exam. 😄

Instead, you begin recognising where you are.

Not because you're guessing better.

Because you're actually hearing it.

That's exactly why I created Hearing The 12.

Not to give you another set of exercises to practise.

But to help you hear the thing that's been hiding in plain sight all along.

Because flamenco is much more enjoyable when you can hear the 12.

The Flamenco Coach

Many dancers think the problem is rhythm.

I don't.

More often than not, it's simply that nobody ever showed them what to listen for.

That's why so many dancers spend years counting, copying and hoping one day it will suddenly click.

The good news?

It can click.

Sometimes all it takes is having someone patiently explain the things that were quickly skipped over in class.

If you've ever wondered why hearing the 12 still feels so difficult, Hearing The 12 was created for exactly that reason.

If you're curious, you'll find the link right here:

❤️ I'd love to know… when it comes to the compás, what's the biggest thing you'd like someone to explain?

The Flamenco Coach

Counting the compás is a really useful skill.

But eventually, your ears need to do some of the work too.

Because the musicians won't pause while you work out where the 12 is.

Instead, you begin recognising familiar patterns in the music that tell you exactly where you are.

That's a very different experience.

If you've ever felt like you're still quietly guessing your way through the compás, this carousel is for you.

And if you'd like help making that shift from counting to hearing, Hearing The 12 was created for exactly that.

The Flamenco Coach

What if you've been blaming yourself for the wrong problem?

One of the most common things I hear from flamenco dancers is:

"I just don't have rhythm."

But after years of teaching, I don't think that's usually the problem.

More often, the missing piece is knowing what to listen for.

Once you start recognising the clues in the music, you stop relying on counting, guessing, or watching everyone else to work out where you are.

You begin recognising what's happening.

And that's when Bulerías starts feeling much less mysterious.

That's exactly why I created Hearing The 12—a short mini-course to help dancers hear where they are in the compás and finally make sense of what they're hearing.

Can you relate? Have you ever caught yourself thinking, "Maybe I just don't have rhythm"?

I'd love to hear your experience in the comments.

Quick show of hands... 🙋‍♀️

Who's ever taken the Sideways Glance™?

You know the one...

That sneaky look at the dancer next to you because you’re not entirely sure where you are in the compás.

😂

If this feels a little too familiar, have a swipe.

And be honest...

How many times have you done this move?

Have you ever been happily counting along...

...only for the music to change and suddenly you have absolutely no idea where you are? 🙋‍♀️

If so, you're definitely not alone.

Counting can be helpful, but it's not the same as recognising what's happening in the music.

Swipe through—I think this might explain why. 👉

And I'm curious...

Have you ever had one of those "Where on earth am I?" moments in class? 😊

Hearing the 12 isn't for everyone.

And that's exactly why I made it.

If you're perfectly happy learning another choreography, hoping compás eventually clicks, or quietly following the dancer next to you... this probably isn't what you're looking for.

But if you’re still asking the question,

"Is this the 12?"

...then I think you'll recognise yourself here.

Because Hearing the 12 wasn't created to teach more steps.

It was created to help dedicated flamenco dancers stop guessing where they are in the compás... and start recognising it instead.

If you'd like to stop asking that question...

Quick show of hands...

Who's ever looked at another dancer for clues because they weren't entirely sure where they were in the compás?
🙋‍♀️

Just asking for research purposes, obviously 😅

Quick question.

Have you ever been dancing in class and suddenly realised you have absolutely no idea where you are in the music?

Everyone else seems calm.

The teacher looks relaxed.

Meanwhile your brain is quietly screaming:

"IS THIS THE 12?"

😳

If you've ever experienced this particular flamenco panic, I have good news.

You're not broken.
You're not unmusical.

And contrary to popular belief, hearing the compás is not a mysterious gift bestowed upon a lucky few at birth.

It's a skill.

And skills can be learned.

That's exactly why I've created a brand new mini-course called:

🎶 Hearing the 12

A practical course designed to help dancers finally hear where they are in the compás without obsessively counting, staring at other dancers, or hoping it magically clicks one day.

Because after a while, "just feel it" starts to sound suspiciously like nobody knows how to explain it.

The Flamenco Coach

Hi dancers, I’ve been working on something very special since July…. The re-do of my signature online course Become A Bulerías Boss 🎉

I knew it would take a while, and it did… but now it is done 😃

To celebrate the new and improved version of my course, I also recorded a brand new Masterclass – where I share 3 foundational keys for improvising easily

These are the step one, do not pass go, do not go to Bulerías classes, if you don’t know these 3 things first

You can go, you just might struggle that’s all, and there’s no point to that if there’s a free Masterclass going around to save you the hassle

If you do sign up to the Masterclass you’ll also receive a special limited time offer for the new and improved course – so if learning how to improvise has been on your to do list for 2025, this might be the sign you need

And… another sign, its Black Friday so now I want to do a Black Friday deal - if you enter code BFBOSS2025 at checkout, there’ll be a surprise discount added as well!

I’ll drop a link to both the free masterclass and the new improved course below

Happy Black Friday to us 🖤
