Sometimes people ask me: How long does it take to finish a crochet doll?
It’s actually quite a difficult question to answer, because the time isn’t only in the crocheting.
Sometimes I spend a long time just choosing the yarn colors. Some colors may look perfect when you see them separately, but when you put them together with other colors in the overall design, they suddenly don’t feel quite right anymore. Choosing and combining colors sometimes requires just as much patience as the crocheting itself.
Two shades can be very close to each other, but even a small difference in tone can create a completely different feeling once the piece is finished.
And there are also times when I redo a small detail many times. Unraveling, crocheting again, trying again… Sometimes it fits but feels a little tight, other times it ends up slightly too loose. A sleeve, a collar, or a tiny little hat…
Crochet is not always a fast process. Every step takes time and careful attention.
But maybe that slow process is exactly what makes handmade pieces feel so special.
What about you? When do you feel that your handmade piece is truly finished?

Many people think the hardest part of making a crochet doll is crocheting it.
But for me, sometimes the hardest part is photographing it.
After finishing a doll, I usually place it on my work desk and look at it for a while. It may sound strange, but that’s how I find the “personality” of the doll.
Some feel gentle, others a little playful. Once I sense that, I start thinking about the setting.
Sometimes it’s just a small vase, a wooden chair, a vintage tray, or a few flowers. I like photos that feel like a small moment from everyday life.
Some days I find the perfect photo quickly. Other days I try many angles and still can’t capture the feeling.

Have you ever thought about which is harder, crocheting the doll, or creating photos that truly bring it to life?

For me, both are difficult in their own way. A doll like Clara the Carnation Girl can take months, or even some months to finish. Every detail needs time and patience. But photographing the doll is another challenge. Setting up the scene, arranging the light, adjusting every little detail… it can take an entire afternoon just to capture the feeling I want.

Both parts take a lot of time, but honestly, crocheting never feels as intimidating to me as taking the photos. Creating images that can properly introduce the pattern to you is always the harder part.

Today AI is growing incredibly fast, and many things can be generated instantly. But for my designs, I still prefer to keep the most essential part real. Every photo of my dolls is still set up and taken by me, so what you see is exactly what the doll looks like in real life.
