Happy International Day of Forests.🌳
To celebrate, we will share photos that we have taken while visiting Kibale Forest in western Uganda. Forests are the backbone of conservation and we hope that more people will appreciate the need to protect the trees, plants and wildlife that live in these forests because preserving such ecosystems should always be priority for us all.
Remember to plant a tree(preferably indigenous trees), advocate for the environment and spend time in nature.💚

Southern Red Bishop seen while birding in Uganda near Kibale National Park.
Uganda is a rewarding birding destination and over 1073 bird species have been recorded here. This makes up 50% of Africa’s bird species.
Uganda has a number of bird-rich habitats with specials that cannot be seen anywhere else in East Africa. Most of these “Uganda Specials’ are Congolese forest birds and West African species. The avian diversity of Uganda is what draws bird watchers from across the world coming to look out for these beautiful birds that we are extremely lucky to share a world with.🐦🌍

The annual eBird taxonomy update is officially happening and we are looking forward to seeing the results from this year’s taxonomy update.
The taxonomy update is very helpful because it keeps eBird observations up to date and makes sure that our checklists that we submit to eBird are accurate.
eBird says that - “This year’s update is a big one: it brings the eBird taxonomy in closer alignment with the global AviList taxonomy and prepares us for a full transition to the AviList taxonomy next year”.
Great news for birders. Taxonomy updates are so important!

Happy World Food Day from Uganda.🥘
This is a typical local lunch that was ordered from a local food restaurant in Uganda. As you drive around Uganda while on safari, you will come across local food joints/restaurants, some small and some big.
One of the best ways to experience the food in Uganda is by stopping at a local food restaurant and having a hot lunch while on safari.
Some of Uganda’s local dishes include matooke (green banana that is peeled, steamed in banana leaves and mashed). Other dishes include “Akaro” which is millet bread, steamed sweet potatoes, cassava, groundnut stew, eshabwe, beef stew and so much more. Uganda is a food basket because it is mainly an agricultural state and the weather is perfect for farming as rain is received all year round in some parts of the country so it offers a great local dining experience.
Let’s celebrate the beauty of food today and it’s ability to connect people.
