SKATETRIBUNE THROWBACK NEWS - JULY 30, 2026 - BACK IN 1992: THE SLAM THAT ENDED LENNIE KIRK

In the 90s, a video by skateboard company Alien Workshop saw then-pro-skateboarder Lennie Kirk soaring boldly across his urban landscape. 33 seconds in, he flies off a dumpster, lands on his head and suffers from a near-fatal brain injury that sends his life on a 180 down a road of religious fanaticism, violence, robbery, kidnap and a 13-year prison sentence.

Kirk was blind for nearly 2 hours after the Timecode slam, ripped his IV out and left the hospital. From SF legend at 16 to prison, his story is in the book HEAVEN by Dennis McGrath.

SKATETRIBUNE THROWBACK NEWS - JULY 28, 2026 - BACK IN 2021: TERRY KENNEDY CHARGED WITH MURDER

Baker and Fly Society pro Terry Kennedy, Chicago legend and MTV star, was charged with first-degree murder after allegedly beating a man to death in Illinois.

Kennedy was arrested after an assault at an Illinois motel on July 27, 2021 on Josiah Kassahun, who suffered a concussion and fractured skull. Kassahun died 4 days later on July 31, 2021 from blunt force injuries to the head.

DuPage County State's Attorney upgraded aggravated battery to first-degree murder after the death. Kennedy was later acquitted of murder in 2022 but convicted of two counts of aggravated battery and sentenced to 5 years in prison in March 2023.

SKATETRIBUNE THROWBACK NEWS - JULY 26, 2026 - BACK IN 2001: KEENAN MILTON DROWNS AT 26

On July 5, 2001, Chocolate and DVS pro Keenan Milton drowned at age 26 at a July 4th party in Malibu. The pool was choked with plastic cups and trash when someone jumped from the roof and struck him in the head.

Born August 4, 1974 in Atlanta, Milton went from Zoo York in New York to becoming a Chocolate legend in LA.

Old footage of Keenan is still used in Chocolate videos today.
