Are you a member of the “Lots of Scraps” club? Well I am 🫣 and I am also in constant search of easy projects to put scraps to good use. Today’s share is a quick book mark that incorporates two types of scraps from my craft room, paper and elastic ( from time to time I do sewing projects and often I end up with small lengths of elastic).
I am playing along Simon Says Stamps Monday Challenge: NOT A CARD featuring a couple of older Tim Holtz stamps that have been sitting pretty on a shelf for far too long. As you can see in the pictures it is a simple project but functional and the best part, well received my child who is an avid reader and often uses receipts or paper scraps for book marks 🙄. The fact that it is “reversible” won me extra points! 😆
I think this is a great rainy day/ long summer day activity for children and adults alike, wouldn’t you agree?
How to:
1. Choose two similar size images. 2. Grab a piece of cardstock that will fit both images and will have extra space to create a peripheral border around each image. 3. Stamp, color and cut/ die cut images 4. Fold cardstock in half -horizontally 5. Apply double sided adhesive tape to one half of the folded cardstock 6. Place both ends of elastic (with previously sealed edges -I use a lighter to burn the elastic ends to prevent fraying- facing each other in the center) 7. Make sure the elastic is not twisted for a smooth finish. 8. Staple the elastic in place. 9. Add more adhesive over the stapled elastic and fold cardstock over. 10 attach colored images and you are done!
The first time you pull the elastic, you may hear/feel a soft “ripping” sound/action, it is normal, that is why the ends of the elastic need to be sealed.
