Hello, I’m Maria Khan, and in today’s video, we’ll start with the basics of English grammar. Grammar helps us structure sentences correctly, making communication clearer.

Parts of Speech

The parts of speech are the building blocks of sentences. Here are the three most important ones:

1. Nouns: A noun is a word that names a person, place, thing, or idea.

Examples: John, school, book, happiness.

Sentence Example: John plays football. Here, John is the noun.

2. Verbs: A verb tells what the subject is doing. It shows actions or states.

Examples: run, eat, dance, is, are.

Sentence Example: John runs quickly. Here, runs is the verb.

3. Adjectives: An adjective describes a noun or pronoun by giving more information about it.

Examples: big, beautiful, tall, red.

Sentence Example: The tall boy. Here, tall describes the noun boy.

Using Simple Sentences

Let’s see how these parts of speech come together to form a basic sentence.

Example: The big cat (noun) jumps (verb) high (adjective/adverb).

Interactive Practice

Now, it’s your turn! Identify the nouns, verbs, and adjectives in these sentences:

1. The dog barks loudly.

2. A red apple fell from the tree.
