VinFast is closing its stores in the Netherlands and Germany! What’s going on? 🇻🇳🚗

VinFast is shutting down all of its showrooms and service centers in the Netherlands and Germany, and it’s happend today (May 9, 2025). I’ve heard that around 90% of their staff have already been let go.

So what does this mean for current customers? And what’s really behind this sudden move?

According to VinFast, they’re switching to a franchise dealer model to improve customer service and expand service capacity. But behind the scenes, things aren’t looking great with ongoing losses, economic pressures, and slow sales, insiders say this was more of a forced decision.

📉 Even though revenue grew by 58% in 2024, the company still lost over $3.1 billion.

Do you think VinFast still has a future in Europe, or is this the beginning of the end?

Tesla Battery Degradation 🤔

It’s been a while since I posted something. In my previous post, I shared that my father had been diagnosed with stomach cancer. Fortunately, the surgery went well and there were no further metastases. He still has one last round of chemotherapy, and then hopefully he can focus on a full recovery.

Battery Degradation…
Once a month, I charge the battery of my ’23 MY Long Range AWD to 100%. I do this to keep the Battery Management System (BMS) properly calibrated, which results in a more accurate range display.

After nearly 2 years of ownership and driving 37,000 km, Tesla now shows that the range of my Model Y with a 100% charge is just under 500 km — specifically 497 km. I believe the original WLTP range was 533 km. This means a degradation of about 40 km over nearly 2 years.
Statistically, these are very decent numbers, as most degradation happens during the first year, after which it levels off to about 1% per year.
What could also help is fully depleting the battery and then charging it back up to 100%. This might slightly improve the displayed range, as it helps the BMS to recalibrate.

Would this kind of battery degradation influence your decision to drive electric? Let me know!

That being said, I’m feeling energized again to explore new EVs and, of course, share them with you. Stay tuned to my channel and I see you soon!

A little update from me…

Lately, life has felt like a rollercoaster for our family. Since last year, we’ve known that my father was diagnosed with stomach cancer. That news hit us hard.

Thankfully, the chemotherapy worked well, and just two days ago he had a successful surgery. These are positive and hopeful signs, and we’re incredibly grateful.

That said, it has had a big impact on us as a family. That’s also why there haven’t been as many videos recently. Sometimes life throws unexpected challenges your way, and all you can do is take it one day at a time.

I want to take a moment to express my deep gratitude and respect to everyone working in healthcare. You are truly essential and appreciated.

Thank you all for your support, understanding, and patience. I’ll be back with more content soon, but for now, we’re focusing on what matters most.

With love,

Genco

BYD Atto 2 – First Impressions!

The video is coming soon, but here are my thoughts on the BYD Atto 2! Enjoy reading, and let me know what you think!

BYD Atto 2 Review

The BYD Atto 2 is a fun little car to look at, though I have my reservations about the front. The slim LED headlights give it a modern touch, but the aluminum-colored BYD logo looks cheap. You get parking sensors at the front and back, air intakes for the brakes, and a sensor underneath for the ADAS system. But honestly, the front design just doesn’t work for me—it’s like a Dolphin on steroids. The rear, on the other hand, is well done. The full-width LED light strip, inspired by a Chinese knot symbol representing infinite luck, is a nice touch. It actually reminds me a bit of the Mercedes EQB.

Storage-wise, the trunk offers a solid 400 liters, expanding to 1,340 liters when you fold down the rear seats. That’s more than enough for everyday use. But let’s be real—by 2025, an EV should at least have an electric tailgate. BYD skipped that feature, and I think that’s a missed opportunity.

Interior: Spacious and well-equipped, but materials feel cheap

For its price and class, the interior is surprisingly roomy. The large panoramic roof adds to the spacious feel. The seats are comfortable, and since the rear seats are slightly reclined, there’s plenty of headroom. Like most EVs, it has a high floor, but at 1.82m tall, I still had enough leg support. You get two USB ports in the back (one USB-A, one USB-C) and some handy storage compartments. However, there’s no center armrest with cupholders, which is a bit of a letdown.

Up front, the driver is well taken care of—electrically adjustable seats with ventilation, a large rotating touchscreen, and physical buttons for essential controls. The crystal-shaped gear selector is a cool little gimmick, something BYD likes to use across its lineup. There’s a big wireless phone holder with tons of storage underneath. Again, you get both USB-A and USB-C ports.

The downside? The materials feel cheap. There’s a lot of hard plastic, with some fake leather patches here and there to give it a more premium look. The yellow stitching on the steering wheel is a nice detail, and you’ll see the same stitching on the doors and center console. One thing I wonder—does the stitching color change depending on the exterior color? Because other than that, you can’t customize the interior.

Driving Experience: Plenty of power, but not well-managed

With 177 hp and 290 Nm of torque going to the front wheels, the Atto 2 should be pretty quick—0-100 km/h in 7.9 seconds. But here’s the problem: the car simply can’t handle the power. The front wheels spin easily, even with Hankook tires, and this happens even in normal drive mode.

Regen braking can be adjusted, but don’t expect true one-pedal driving. In fact, I barely noticed any difference between the settings. The turning circle is good, but since the car struggles to put its power down properly, you have to be careful with acceleration. If you push too hard, the steering gets light, and you could lose control.

Comfort-wise, the suspension is on the softer side, so it rides well. But taking corners at speed? Not a great idea. The steering feels lifeless—there’s zero connection to the road. It doesn’t feel like you’re driving a car, more like you’re just moving from A to B. In China, people appreciate interior tech and comfort, but in the West—especially in the Netherlands—we expect a car to drive well too. And in my opinion, this one just doesn’t.

Range & Charging: Disappointing for BYD’s standards

The Atto 2 comes with a 45 kWh battery, offering a WLTP range of 312 km. DC fast charging maxes out at 65 kW, which means a 10-80% charge takes about 39 minutes. That’s not exactly great for long-distance trips. And honestly, with BYD’s expertise in battery technology, they could have easily given this car a 100 kW+ charging speed. Why they didn’t is beyond me.

Final Thoughts

At a starting price of around €31,000, the BYD Atto 2 is a decent entry-level EV. It’s spacious, well-equipped, and offers good tech for the price. The 8-year/200,000 km warranty is also a strong selling point. But the design is hit-or-miss, the driving experience is underwhelming, and the charging speed is disappointing.

If you’re looking for a budget-friendly EV for city driving, the Atto 2 could work. But if you care about driving dynamics and longer trips, there are definitely better options out there.
