(فَائِدَةٌ) ظَهَرَ فِي هَذَا الْقَرْنِ وَقَبْلَهُ بِيَسِيرٍ شَرَابٌ يُتَّخَذُ مِنْ قِشْرِ الْبُنِّ يُسَمَّى الْقَهْوَةَ

People have differed about this between extremists who held that drinking it is an act of worship and fanatics that hold that it is al-khamr (ie: an intoxicant).
وَاخْتَلَفَ النَّاسُ فِيهِ فَمِنْ مُتَغَالٍ فِيهِ يَرَى أَنَّ شُرْبَهُ قُرْبَةٌ، وَمِنْ غَالٍ يَرَى أَنَّهُ مُسْكِرٌ كَالْخَمْرِ

The truth is that in and of itself it is not an intoxicant, but merely a stimulant which creates weakness that affects the body when abandoned much like the one that eats meat with saffron and spices, being affected when left off.
وَالْحَقُّ أَنَّهُ فِي ذَاتِهِ لَا إسْكَارَ فِيهِ وَإِنَّمَا فِيهِ تَنْشِيطٌ لِلنَّفْسِ وَيَحْصُلُ بِالْمُدَاوَمَةِ عَلَيْهِ طَرَاوَةٌ تُؤَثِّرُ فِي الْبَدَنِ عِنْدَ تَرْكِهِ كَمَنْ اعْتَادَ أَكْلَ اللَّحْمِ بِالزَّعْفَرَانِ وَالْمُفْرِحَاتِ فَيَتَأَثَّرُ عِنْدَ تَرْكِهِ.
