Originally from Wasilla, Alaska, Portugal. The Man have spent two decades evolving from early psych-rock roots into Grammy-winning, chart-topping artists. The new album, SHISH, marks a transition. After completing their long-running deal with Warner Brothers, frontman and songwriter John Gourley chose not to re-sign and released the record independently on his own KNIK imprint. The album draws directly from his Alaska background and reflects a return to the storytelling approach that shaped Portugal. The Man’s earliest work.
