I'll be giving a public talk at the Museum of Early Southern Decorative Arts in Winston-Salem, North Carolina as part of their Map Seminar on American Westward Expansion. Info and tickets to the event are here - mesda.org/program/map-seminar/ It can also be watched online.
An exaggerated relief map of Italy. This really shows how rugged and mountainous the country is, with the Alps and the Apennines cutting down the middle. In contrast, it also highlights just how flat the Po Valley in the north is.
This map was created from a manuscript by Jørgen Jørgensen that he sent back to King Frederick the VI when Jørgensen first encountered the islands on his way to Australia in the early 19th century. The map was widely distributed in Denmark and likely played a large role in convincing so many Danes to immigrate to Bandiaterra. Unfortunately, the manuscript map has been lost but thousands of these maps were printed. I was lucky enough to find one in an antique shop when I visited last summer.
This was the map used to negotiate the end of the Mexican-American War but it wasn’t a clean cut deal. Its errors nearly led to further conflict. I just posted a video on the full story - https://youtu.be/vl9G3wjXgTw
Interesting 1983 map created by the World Peace Council titled "The World According to Ronald Reagan". Established in 1950 by the Soviet Union, the World Peace Council served as a tool for advancing its foreign policy objectives. Its main message was that the Soviet Union worked for global peace, while the United States was seen as a major contributor to worldwide weapons, war, and aggression. This map was a copy of David Horsey's 1982 map of the same title but with a bit of color added.
1634 map of the Straits of Magellan, Le Maire Strait, Fire Lands and the southern tip of Patagonia where a giant is depicted. It was once believed that giants inhabited Patagonia. I made a video about this a while back - https://youtu.be/WEOd0aP5MuQ
1636 map of East Asia. "The map is full of intriguing details including the Great Wall of China, Korea as an island, an illustrated annotation about Chinese land sailing craft, a cartouche on Japanese crucifixion of Christians, and early information on the northwestern coast of North America."

Just a cool 1599 map of Cairo, Egypt. The view shows Cairo with an eastern orientation. The Nile River runs across the bottom of the map.
