having fun learning

griffman1212

my dad passed from ALS on may 24th, 2020 -- and I've been thinking every day about how to honor him in my life. he'd always call me "griffman" and, since he worked in radio and had a studio at home, I'd usually hear a couple "one two one two"s every day.

so, my new tag is griffman1212; feel free to call me griff or griffman! :D

When I stream, I have a ton of moments I clip that I think would be super fun to share. Usually I spend a ton of time trying to figure out a more high-effort way to package everything together, but would you guys prefer if I just posted wayyyy more? I post pretty infrequently because of my full time job and stuff, but I could share some more fun moments from stream more often. Other option is a Clips channel. Would it be annoying to see fun clips from my stream in addition to the highly edited shorts?

Would love to hear some suggestions

Anyone else playing Pokemon TCG Pocket? Post your friend codes & we can all add each other :D Some thoughts on the game so far:
- Most Gacha games at least hide behind the guise of a story or some convoluted mechanism for getting enough currency to do pulls. No. This game is unabashedly *just* doing pulls, which is awesome.
- BATTLES! I've never bothered to actually learn how to play the Pokemon TCG the right way, but this game hooked me in (with tutorials!). Your goal isn't just to collect cards; you'll use the cards you pull to battle against others in the actual TCG. Never realized that Pokemon TCG is actually pretty fun :D I know that this version of the TCG is actually a simplified version of the actual game, but still, pretty fun. Hoping for a ranked mode at some point (although apparently this was leaked as never happening).
- The main currency is TIME -- 12 hours per pull. Or, you can spend "hourglasses" to skip ahead and pull immediately, which ultimately returns us to the standard formula (earn currency -> buy pulls). But, in theory, if you're patient enough, you can never spend a single hourglass. Good luck with that, though.
- Pulling is REALLY fun. You get to slice open the pack, which is even cooler with 10 packs at once.
- Pulling the 3 star Mewtwo EX was really fun, there's a special animation & it felt like a celebration. Definitely makes me want to chase that high again LOL
- Feels really satisfying to try to fill up your entire collection, as with any collection based game.

All in all, fun to get the daily dopamine rush from doing pulls, and not having to waste time on standard Gacha mechanics of grinding for resources. Pokemon cards rule, very satisfied with my time played so far.

Anyway, post friend codes in comments!

I'm gonna make more Speedrunning Mechanics in Real Life videos, what do you guys want me to do next? Some things on the list:
- Bomb Clip from SM64
- BLJs from SM64 (but better)
- Cannonless from SM64
- Bouncing on top of a Shy Guy and spinning (like in Talon Star, SM64)
- Celeste Wavedash
- Jump King, Pogostuck, Getting Over It movement
- Pause Buffering

Adjacent:
- Super Smash Bros Melee Wavedash
- Super Smash Bros Melee L-Canceling
- Super Smash Bros Melee grab distances (e.g., Marth)

And a lot more. All of the above is from stuff I've played, but I haven't played everything, so would love to hear what ideas ppl have :D If there's something where you're like "man I wonder how this would work in real life," that's what I want to hear about!!

Wunks,

Today, I launched channel memberships on YouTube (for $0.99)! Here's a few reasons:

1. Being fully transparent, I have been in the content creation space since 2013. Although I have a great job in tech, I want to be a full-time content creator. Realistically, that means making enough every month to keep the lights on. Members help add consistent monthly income & help me go full-time.
2. I want to create a community of people that (as of the time of writing this), love playing games, love anime, love speedrunning, love the hardest gaming challenges possible, love trying (very hard!) in new games. Basically, I want to find the people who love the things I love, and create an awesome space for everyone to hang out. Members help build this type of community.
3. Badges in chat + emotes are epic, and this is the way to do that :D Also automatic Discord roles????
4. I'll also be posting some Behind The Scenes videos (like how I do the VFX that I do) & Experimental Vids (like a different format, games I usually don't play, types of videos I don't normally do). I always feel super anxious when I try new styles of videos, but feel excited to share with you guys as members :D

One day, when I become a full-time content creator, it'll be because of the Wunks that got in on the ground floor :D Excited to see what this channel looks like in the years to come!

Oh, and if you've got a buck sitting around, go Wunk yourself here! youtube.com/@griffinbeels/join (You'll get a cool coin badge -- and when this channel is bigger in 5 years, your badge will show you've been here forever!)
