Carrigan M Nelson

My name is Carrigan, and I’ve been fighting a rare bone cancer called Osteosarcoma since 2019. Following a relapse, I became an above-the-knee amputee. This channel is to document my journey and I am so glad you are here.

Always remember: You are loved, and you are here for a reason.

Hi Everyone,

I am sorry that I have not posted an update in a while. I have been having harsh chemotherapy every 3 weeks for almost 6 months and it has been extremely difficult.

As many of you know, I almost lost my life back in December/ January due to a phase 1 clinical trial failing. That experience changed me. Everyday is a gift and I am so fortunate to have you all on my team. You lift me up and carry me through my darkest days.

Recently I went for a CT and PET scan due to increased pain in several areas. I received my scans results which are mixed. One of my tumors has more than doubled in size and is in a challenging area in my lung - another has grown and the rest have mostly remained stable. Due to growth, I am going to either get another ablation (surgically deep freezing the tumor) or radiation and continue with high dose chemotherapy.

For the past 6 plus years my cancer journey has been a roller coaster. Unfavorable scan results never get easier and my heart is feeling crushed.

Ending on a positive note as always - this is one of my favorite photos of my best friend Hannah and I. 💗 These moments keep me pushing forward. I am still determined to keep fighting.

Please continue to keep my fellow warriors in your prayers.

All my love to Team Carrigan! - C 💛

I am trying my best to stay optimistic and positive but the last week has been challenging. UNC hospital will not take either of my insurance plans to cover the CAR T Trial in NC which is my last option as my cancer is progressing. My Health Insurance is advocating on my behalf to have UNC sign a contract and accept my insurance plans. Either way - we plan to still go forward with the trial which is $54k out of pocket, must be paid up front and does not include hospital stays, travel, lodging, etc. We are scrambling to cover the costs and are so grateful for all who have donated to our Gofundme campaign and to those working on other fundraising efforts. We will be releasing merch soon. Thanks to all who are praying and working so hard to help save my life. 💛🌻🎗️ Donating, sharing this post or praying means just as much.

Hi Everyone 🤍 I am so heartbroken. My scans results were much worse than my family and I could have anticipated. It has been a challenging week of testing, zoom meetings and conference calls with my team to try and determine a treatment plan. I have multiple nodules in both lungs and, while they remain small, many have doubled in size. I have a new large (lime sized) tumor in my upper right lung (growing outside the lung into the muscle tissue) in a space which makes it surgically impossible to remove in its entirety and surgery would be too complex and risky. I am potentially eligible for a 5 month long clinical trial in Boston and will initially need 8 days of radiation on the large tumor (usually not very successful with large solid tumors) prior to the start of the trial. I may then need additional lung surgeries at some point to remove the numerous smaller nodules. I am also seeking to get on a waiting list in Seattle Washington for a CAR-T clinical trial. The emergent focus is the large tumor and I will begin radiation in the days ahead. Unfortunately my options are very limited and I am focusing on quality of life treatments because I am incurable. I am trying my very best to stay determined and positive. It’s so hard because I have been actively fighting cancer for 5 years and it’s emotionally and physically exhausting. I am staying strong and Team Carrigan is the best support system. I am grateful for you all. Please keep my family and I in your prayers as my fight for my life continues.🎗️

Thank you to my best friend Hannah Nasser for creating this GoFundMe to assist our family with medical and related expenses as my treatments will be in Boston and potentially Seattle Washington.

Team Carrigan, please consider donating towards my fathers GoFundMe. He fell over 30 feet off of our house trying to do a home repair. He is the kindest soul and my rock. I wouldn’t be alive without him. Please pray and keep him in your thoughts. ❤️

(Please Share) Hi Team Carrigan! September is National Childhood Cancer Awareness month - proclaimed by former president Barack Obama in 2012. Childhood cancer remains the leading death by disease for children under the age of 14. I cannot wrap my mind around the fact that childhood cancer research only gets 4% of Federal Funding.

In 2019 I heard the words “You have cancer ” and my world changed forever. I have been fighting aggressive bone cancer (Osteosarcoma) for over 3.5 years!

Pediatric cancer treatment involves harsh drugs developed for adult cancers dating back to the 1950’s. I have undergone years of high dose chemotherapy with these antiquated drugs and the side effects are horrific and devastating! This is so incredibly heartbreaking and frustrating. Cancer has taken too many young and beautiful individuals from the world.

This September I will be posting Childhood Cancer Awareness posts. I have lost my leg to cancer but I refuse to lose hope! The one thing I want you to take away from this post is that we are more than 4%! 💛

Hi Team Carrigan. ❤️

I sincerely apologize for not being active on YouTube. Cancer has been very hard on me. My chemo made me very sick and weak and I was too sick to make content. That being said… I am taking a break from treatment. I will be able to make content! ❤️ I have lost 300 subscribers since my last video and I don’t want to loose anymore of you! :( I love you all so much.

Love
Carrigan :))
