NEW SPECIES DISCOVERED | Scientists have identified a mysterious blue octopus found nearly 6,000 feet beneath the waters of the Galápagos Islands as a brand-new species. The golf ball-sized octopus, now named Microeledone galapagensis, was spotted crawling across the deep-sea floor near an underwater mountain during a research expedition.

The discovery was announced in the journal Zootaxa, adding another rare animal to the Galápagos Islands’ long list of species found nowhere else on Earth, from giant tortoises to marine iguanas.

Congressman Thomas Massie, one of Donald Trump’s most vocal Republican critics, has lost his fight for re-election to a Trump-backed challenger.

Ed Gallrein, a former Navy SEAL, will now compete in November’s midterm election after winning Kentucky’s Republican primary on Tuesday. The race, reportedly the most expensive House primary in U.S. history, was widely seen as a major test of Trump’s grip on the Republican Party.

Trump repeatedly urged voters to back Gallrein over Massie, calling the incumbent a “major sleazebag” and “the worst Republican congressman in history.”

Massie, who has been in office since 2012, publicly broke with Trump by voting against his “big, beautiful” tax and spending bill last year over concerns about the national debt. He also pushed back on Trump’s military actions, including strikes on suspected drug boats in the Caribbean and the war in Iran.

Massie has also said he has struggled to identify with one party. “I’m not even sure that I’m bipartisan,” Massie said. “Bi means you like both. I might be trans partisan because I can’t identify with either … I don’t know which cloak room to go in.”

As of May 15, the CDC has confirmed that U.S. health organizations are monitoring at least 41 people across 16 states who may have been exposed to hantavirus following the outbreak on the MV Hondius cruise ship.

There are currently no confirmed cases in the United States. A cruise passenger who had tested positive for the virus when they left the ship has since produced three consecutive negative test results.

According to the CDC, 18 of the people being monitored are currently in quarantine at a government facility in Nebraska, 2 are at medical facilities in Atlanta and Kansas City, and the remaining 21 people are isolating at home.

In 1970, Charles, then a Prince, was photographed with Richard Nixon on the balcony of the White House at age 22, significantly younger than the 57-year-old president. When he returned for a visit in 2026, Charles was photographed on the White House lawn at age 78 with Trump, who was born two years before him in 1946.
