Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. defended his department’s response to the nationwide rise in measles cases during a contentious interview with CNN’s Dana Bash on State of the Union.

Kennedy, a longtime vaccine skeptic, said he had “never questioned the efficacy of the MMR vaccine” and encouraged parents to have their children vaccinated against measles. The exchange grew heated when Bash pressed him about claims linking childhood vaccines to autism.

“Dana, you probably don’t understand this because you’re not a scientist,” Kennedy said.

“You’re not either,” Bash replied.

Kennedy is an environmental lawyer and does not have medical or scientific training. According to the CDC, two doses of the vaccine are 97% effective at preventing measles.

People gathered at Pariser Platz near Berlin’s Brandenburg Gate on July 26 to mourn the victims of an attack near the city’s Christopher Street Day Pride festival. Attendees laid flowers, lit candles and joined a demonstration in support of the LGBTQ+ community.

The gathering took place a day after a rented van struck people in Tiergarten park at about 10 p.m. Authorities said the suspect also attacked several people with a bladed weapon. One woman was killed and 29 people were injured, including three who suffered life-threatening injuries.

The attack brought the Pride celebrations to an abrupt end after hundreds of thousands of people had participated in events across the city.

Police identified the suspect as 21-year-old German citizen Abdul B. He was found the following evening at an allotment garden complex in Berlin’s Spandau district. Authorities said he charged at special police officers with a knife, prompting them to open fire. He died at the scene despite resuscitation efforts.

Officials are investigating the incident as an Islamist extremist attack. Berlin prosecutors said the suspect had previously been convicted of preparing a serious act of violence against the state and of sharing banned Islamic State propaganda. That conviction was not final and was under appeal.

Vice President JD Vance said the Watergate scandal would have been little more than a “12-hour news story” in today’s fragmented political climate and would not have forced a president from office.

Speaking at the Richard Nixon Presidential Library in California, Vance argued that the “deep state” brought down Nixon and drew a parallel with institutions he said attempted to undermine Donald Trump during his first administration.

Trump was first impeached in 2019 on charges of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress. The House accused him of pressuring Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to announce investigations involving political rival Joe Biden while withholding a White House meeting and congressionally approved military aid, then directing officials not to comply with the impeachment inquiry.

He was impeached again in January 2021 for incitement of insurrection after repeatedly claiming the 2020 election had been stolen and urging supporters to march to the U.S. Capitol as Congress certified the results. A mob subsequently stormed the building, disrupting the certification process.

The Senate acquitted Trump in both trials.

Watergate began with the 1972 break-in at Democratic National Committee headquarters and ultimately led Nixon to become the only U.S. president to resign from office.

Erling Braut Haaland played down Norway’s chances ahead of their final World Cup group-stage match against tournament favorite France.

Speaking after scoring twice in Norway’s 3-2 victory over Senegal, Haaland said he was simply relieved that his country had secured a place in the knockout stage. “Honestly, I don’t care too much,” he told FOX Sports. “They’re probably going to win against us, they’re probably going to win the whole tournament.”

Norway and France will meet on Friday, June 26, with the winner set to finish top of Group I. Norway is competing at its first World Cup since 1998, while France opened its campaign with consecutive victories over Senegal and Iraq.

NEW SPECIES DISCOVERED | Scientists have identified a mysterious blue octopus found nearly 6,000 feet beneath the waters of the Galápagos Islands as a brand-new species. The golf ball-sized octopus, now named Microeledone galapagensis, was spotted crawling across the deep-sea floor near an underwater mountain during a research expedition.

The discovery was announced in the journal Zootaxa, adding another rare animal to the Galápagos Islands’ long list of species found nowhere else on Earth, from giant tortoises to marine iguanas.
