#BookReview - Niltava in the Oak Tree by Rinu R. is an impressive debut collection of thirteen stories that explores loneliness, paranoia, grief, ageing, memory, and emotional vulnerability with remarkable sensitivity.
Rather than relying on dramatic plots, the author focuses on the complexities of the human mind, creating narratives that are introspective, atmospheric, and quietly unsettling.
From Mouni's struggle with paranoia in the titular story to the poignant reflections on dementia in Rain-Soaked Heart and unconventional companionship in Like A Wild Mushroom, each story offers a distinctive emotional landscape.
Rinu R. demonstrates empathy towards characters often overlooked in fiction, particularly older women, caregivers, and individuals grappling with isolation.
Her restrained prose and nuanced characterisation lend the collection a contemplative quality that lingers long after the final page.
Thoughtful, psychologically rich, and emotionally resonant, Niltava in the Oak Tree is a rewarding read for lovers of literary fiction.
#BookReview - The Misery of December by Anita Mohammed is a fast-paced crime thriller that kept me engaged from start to finish.
Set in Burlington, Vermont, the story follows a group of detectives assigned to a secret task force after a mysterious gang disrupts a long-standing peace between crime syndicates and law enforcement.
As violence escalates and fear spreads through the city, the investigation becomes increasingly dangerous and complex.
What I enjoyed most was the tense atmosphere and the unfolding mystery. The author steadily builds suspense while revealing new clues and unexpected developments.
The exploration of power struggles, criminal networks, and shifting alliances adds depth to the story beyond the central investigation.
While I would have liked more development for some of the supporting characters, the strong pacing and intriguing plot more than make up for it.
Overall, this is an entertaining thriller filled with suspense, action, and enough twists to keep readers invested until the end.
#BookReview - The Sea of Monsters by Rick Riordan continues Percy Jackson’s journey with higher stakes, stronger character development, and a darker tone.
When the magical borders protecting Camp Half-Blood are poisoned, and Grover goes missing, Percy sets out on a dangerous quest across the Sea of Monsters alongside Annabeth and Clarisse.
The novel successfully expands the mythology introduced in the first book while deepening the larger conflict surrounding Kronos and the Great Prophecy.
The pacing remains fast and engaging, filled with sea creatures, unexpected twists, and emotional moments. Tyson, Percy’s half-brother, adds warmth and humour to the story with his innocence and loyalty.
What makes this instalment particularly compelling is how it begins shaping the future of the series, leaving readers with anticipation for what lies ahead. It is an entertaining and well-crafted continuation of Percy’s adventures.
Percy Jackson and The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan is a fast-paced introduction to a world where Greek mythology exists alongside the modern day.
The story follows Percy Jackson, a seemingly ordinary boy who discovers that he is a demigod, the son of Poseidon. When Zeus’s lightning bolt is stolen, Percy is accused and must embark on a dangerous quest to prevent a war among the gods.
What makes the book compelling is its blend of humor, action, and mythology. The narrative remains engaging throughout, with well-timed twists, memorable characters like Annabeth and Grover, and an underlying theme of identity and belonging.
It is an accessible and entertaining read that sets a strong foundation for the series while leaving the reader eager for more.

♥️ Have you read any book from this stack? Or which book should I pick first?
Warning: This article isn't your usual year-end highlight. It's raw, emotional, and a bit messy just like life sometimes is. If you're looking for polished, feel-good vibes, skip this one.
My first DNF! I picked Is It Just Me? by Miranda Hart through my Blind Book Date system and was excited to dive in.
However, I struggled to connect with the author’s tone. While the book is marketed as hilarious, I didn’t find it that funny—though it does have its moments. After 100 pages, I decided to set it aside.
There are so many great books on my TBR that deserve my time and attention, and I’ve realized life’s too short to push through a book I’m not enjoying.
This is the first time I’ve ever DNF’d a book, but there’s a first for everything! I might revisit it someday, but for now, adios, amigos!✌🏻
