Festival da Canção is Portugal's national selection to elect a representative for Eurovision Song Contest, an international music event that gathers some of EBU's public broadcasters.
RTP (Rádio e Televisão de Portugal), as Portugal's public service broadcaster, is responsible to determine the format through which the country chooses the singer and/or song to be part of the show, according to Eurovision standards.
In 2017, Salvador Sobral and his entry "Amar pelos Dois" won Festival da Canção and set a new Eurovision record for the highest-scoring winner on Eurovision, having earned a total of 758 points under the current voting system, after winning both the jury vote and televote.
