Efterklang's new album 'Things We Have In Common' is out now on City Slang!

The experimental Danish art pop/indie-rock group Efterklang emerged in the front half of the 2000s with an enchanting blend of atmospheric pop and lushly arranged orchestral rock elements. Efterklang formed in December 2000 when childhood friends Casper Clausen (vocals), Mads Brauer (computer), and Rasmus Stolberg (guitar) -- all three having recently moved to Copenhagen from the tiny Danish island of Als -- joined musical forces with pianist Rune Mølgaard and drummer/trumpeter Thomas Husmer. From the start, the band members took a D.I.Y. approach to their music, handling all aspects of songwriting, recording, and production in their Copenhagen practice space. Efterklang found an audience, especially in Europe, after releasing their first two albums on England's the Leaf Label; the attention led to a deal with 4AD. The band has recorded seven studio albums and are currently signed to City Slang.

Our Macedonian adventure is one of the wildest and most unforgettable experiences as a band. We’re grateful for all the incredible people we met, and deeply thankful that director Andreas Johnsen captured the journey so beautifully in the film.

New Song Out Now: Ese Día ft. Mabe Fratti ☀️

Watch the video 📽️ https://youtu.be/YwCFN5BTbcw

‘Ese Día’, that day, refers to June 23rd, 2022. We were on the Danish island of Møn for Efterklangs Sommertræf with Tatu Rönkkö, Rune Mølgaard, Hector Tosta, and Mabe Fratti, working on early sketches for songs that later would become part of the “Things We Have In Common” album.

That evening, we all joined a midsummer gathering in the gardens of a neighboring farmhouse - one of Denmark’s oldest communes. There was a huge bonfire, and people were singing and dancing together. It felt like a magical, never-ending summer day, with the sunset melting into the sunrise. Later that night, back at the residency, Rune sat down at the piano and began playing a few chords. Slowly, all of us joined in. Mabe and Casper added words inspired by the gathering and the landscape we were in. Before long, a new song was taking shape: Ese Día!

The music video is filmed and edited by Søren Lyngggard.

The song is written by Casper Clausen, Mads Brauer, Rasmus Stolberg, Rune Mølgaard, Mabe Fratti, Hector Tosta and Tatu Rönkkö.

Produced by Efterklang and Francesco Donadello, Mastered by ET Mastering, Released by City Slang.

Mads Brauer: synth
Casper Clausen: vocal and acoustic guitar
Rasmus Stolberg: bass
Rune Mølgaard: piano
Mabe Fratti: vocal and cello
Tatu Rönkkö: drums
Hector Tosta: electric guitar

We captured almost 9,000 photos during our tour in Japan back in October, documenting our travels and experiences over eight unforgettable days. The result is the video for “Ambulance“ - a frenetic stop-motion tour documentary that we feel captures the same raw and energetic spirit within the song.

A big thank you to Shin Ohsaki, who organized the tour and the Japanese release of our album Things We Have in Common (Lirico/City Slang). Shin also contributed many of the photos featured in the video! It was one of the best tours ever and such a relief to finally reconnect with our Japanese listeners, as well as old friends Tenniscoats and aus, who joined us on the tour. We can’t wait to return!

The video has been expertly edited by Kenneth Sarup, who also edited the video for Sentiment earlier in 2024.

We hope you'll enjoy the video!
