In the sacred month of Muharram, two profound stations open for the seeker’s journey: Baab e Tawbah (The Door of Repentance) and Entering the Cave of Safety. 2 Recite 12,000 times in Muharram: سُبْحَانَ رَبِّيِ الْأَعْلَى Subḥāna Rabbī’l-‘A‘lā “Glory be to my Lord, the Most High.”
3 Visualize the spider’s web and dove guarding the Prophet’s cave as symbols of Divine protection sealing your own heart against distractions.
By standing at Baab e Tawbah and entering the Cave of Safety, we both knock at the Gate of Mercy and shelter in the heart’s sanctuary of peace. These stations guide us to leave behind our lower selves and be clothed in the serenity that only proximity to Allah ﷻ and His beloved Prophet Muhammad ﷺ can bring.

In the ocean of Sufi symbolism, Shaykh Nurjan teaches that true “graduation” on the spiritual path occurs when Allah ﷻ parts the great sea of worldly attachment and grants you nijāt (salvation) by delivering you from the “Firʿaonic Kingdom” of the ego. This reality is rooted in the story of Sayyidina Mūsā ﷺ on the day of ‘Āshūrā’: when Allah inspires him to strike the sea, it splits, and his people walk through to freedom.

𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝗶𝗿ʿ𝗮𝗼𝗻𝗶𝗰 𝗞𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗱𝗼𝗺: Represents the oppressive pull of your lower self and every harmful habit or desire that enslaves you to dunya. Like Pharaoh’s chariots, these forces chase the seeker at every step.
𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗦𝗲𝗮: Symbolizes Allah’s direct intervention. When He opens a path through that vast barrier, He is showing, “I will lift your soul from this realm and transition you toward My presence.”
𝗦𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝗠𝗮𝘄𝘁 𝗤𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗶𝗹-𝗠𝗮𝘄𝘁: This “death before death” is the annihilation of desires. The soul leaves the tyranny of the body’s demands and enters the barzakh—a luminous isthmus between creation and the Divine.

Shaykh describes how, upon this passage:

> An angel—known as Ruḥisabāh—arrives on the dawn breeze to lift your soul like an “island of realities” away from materiality.
> You gain the support of Sayyidina Ibrāhīm and Sayyidina Mūsā and the spiritual station of Khalīlul-Raḥmān, empowered to come and go between worlds with Allah’s permission.
> Your “ascension” (mi‘rāj) begins now, as your essence journeys beyond all hindrances into the eternal City of Light—Madinat al-Munawwara, the presence of Nabi ﷺ.

Practically, to seek this graduation:

> Invoke Allah’s help daily: “Yā Rabb, grant me a path through every block that chases me.”
> Practice the secret of secrets (Sirr al-Sirr) by cooling the fire of anger and desire—make wudu, recite “Qulnā yā nāran, kunī bardan wa salāman ‘alā Ibrāhīm” (21:69).
> Perform Salāt al-Najāh at Fajr, pleading for deliverance from the Firʿaonic pull and for the zeal to please Allah ﷻ above all else.

When Allah parts your personal sea, know that He is granting you nijāt: the soul’s liberation from its lower prisons and its invitation into Divine proximity. May He elevate us to this station of true graduation, free from the clutches of our ego and enveloped in His Mercy. Āmīn.

Wa alaikum assalam wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh. May Allah ﷻ bless you for seeking these deep realities.Shaykh Nurjan Mirahmadi (Q) teaches that the journey to the Muhammadan Presence ﷺ is a path of emptying ourselves—of our ego, attachments, and worldly distractions—so that the lights and realities of the Prophetic soul may flow through us. This is a foundational principle in Sufism, known as fana (annihilation of the self), which leads to baqa (abiding in Divine Presence).

Emptying the Self: The Doorway to Divine Light
At the heart of this teaching is the confession of our nothingness before Allah ﷻ and His Beloved Prophet ﷺ. The Shaykh explains that as long as our hearts are filled with desires, attachments, and the distractions of dunya (the material world), there is no room for the Divine Light to enter. Allah ﷻ says in the Qur’an, “Allah has not made for a man two hearts in his interior…” (Qur’an 33:4). This means our heart cannot serve both the ego and the Divine; it must be singularly devoted.

Shaykh Nurjan likens this process to spiritual physics: just as atoms must release negativity to bond, we too must release our negative traits, sins, and attachments to connect with the Muhammadan Light ﷺ. Every desire, addiction, or vice acts as a barrier, repelling the flow of Divine realities. When we cut these attachments through discipline, humility, and love, we become like an empty vessel, ready to be filled with the lights and realities of the Muhammadan Presence ﷺ.

How Do We Empty Ourselves?
• Humility and Discipline: Recognize our own ignorance and weakness, and strive to purify our character.
• Tafakkur (Contemplation): Engage in deep spiritual reflection, making it our spiritual breath. This is the highest form of worship in our time.
• Constant Durood Sharif (Salawat): Sending blessings upon the Prophet ﷺ acts as a spiritual ignition, propelling the soul toward the Muhammadan Reality.
• Good Character and Vigilance: Always remember that the Shaykh and the Muhammadan Light are present with us. Govern our actions accordingly, striving to maintain their presence through good conduct.
• Service and Submission: Serve the Shaykh and the path with sincerity, recognizing that true submission is shown by what controls our heart and actions.

~The Result: Flow of Muhammadan Lights and Realities
When we truly empty ourselves, the soul becomes polished and purified. The Shaykh describes this as a magnetic connection: the more we negate ourselves and fill our hearts with love and obedience, the more the Muhammadan Light bonds with us. This connection brings us ever closer to the Prophetic reality, dressing us in Divine mercy and nearness. The journey is not one of physical distance, but of spiritual proximity—where the soul is perpetually drawn to the ocean of mercy and light that is Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ.
