A Mint Farm Film includes more than just a movie. It includes a strategy, developed in conjunction with our partners, to take full advantage of everything related to it. That thinking extends across platforms, audience segments, and revenue opportunities.

We had an amazing opportunity yesterday to interview former NHLer Bob Bassen for the documentary on which we’re working about Ed Belfour. We were able to take advantage of the Olympic break to shoot in the Dallas Stars’ team room at the American Airlines Center. Bob now works in the team’s front office, serving as director of the Stars’ alumni association. He told great stories about the past and present. Thanks a ton to the Stars and AAC for letting us shoot in that fantastic setting!

It was a beautiful night for football at Friday’s SERVPRO First Responder Bowl. We brought cameras to observe Florida International GM Jose Jefferson in action. Jose also owns the College Gridiron Showcase, the college all-star event where we’ll shoot a documentary in January. We try to use that CGS content to provide insight into the big picture of the sport, and the rapid evolution of the college general manager role is an interesting story thread. So Jose welcomed us for a little advance production work at his school’s big game.

We just posted up a video with some behind-the-scenes shots of the interview we did with Baseball Hall of Fame manager Jim Leyland this fall. It was shot at Chartiers Country Club in Pittsburgh. That’s where Jim likes to play golf, so when we asked him where he’d like to do the interview, he suggested that location. We were coming in from out of town and weren’t sure what to expect, but the staff there had it all planned out and found us an excellent spot on the second floor of the clubhouse to set up for the interview. We talked to Mr. Leyland about a player he’d managed in Detroit: Iván “Pudge” Rodríguez. We’re working on a documentary about Pudge and Jim gave us more than an hour of his time to tell stories and provide insight into what made him an outstanding catcher. In the video, you see a bit of the room and our multi-camera production setup. We try to roll at least three cameras whenever possible because it provides so many more options in the editing process.
