Sinner played great — kudos to him. But somehow, when I look back at the match, I realize Djokovic wasn’t there mentally. Physically, I never expected him to match Sinner, being 38 years old. But mentally, I expected more from him. The match felt uncharacteristically unlike Djokovic. So many 30-all points he couldn’t convert into break chances - especially that game at 5-5 in the second set. He was leading 40-15 on serve and then made several unforced errors. The third set saw three set points go wasted. So many missed opportunities. Mentally, he just wasn’t present.
