Tomorrow I’m posting a new video. A 4-track, 60s-style recording of a song about dissociation and apathy. I want the mood of the recording and its production to reflect the spaced out, lethargic and alienated feeling I had when writing it, while still keeping the song feeling like a very (flawed) human performance. The track is called “Cloudy Skies”.
We’re using vintage instruments and gear from the second-hand arsenal, and building up some uneasy, moving textures in the background using outboard effects units. It even features an organ solo on the Bontempi 70s electric chord organ - and of course the WEM Copicat tape echo remains a staple.
Getting closer to album time. I’m finalising the mixes on some of the tracks from previous videos, and still writing new songs…with accompanying videos which will come out as and when they are ready.
Thanks for your support and for lending your ears to my little creations 🙏 God bless.
A few stills from the new video (coming this week so keep an eye out! 😃) I did this kinda stuff alone for years, so it’s really heartwarming that people take time to sit down, watch and join in. The next video has some of the nicest b-roll of any video so far, with the subject being rural Scotland! It also has me playing glockenspiel with a pen and detuning a classical guitar for a “double bass” sound. It actually kinda works. I really hope you enjoy this one! Thank you for all your support! 🙏
Some stills from the next video I’ll be uploading where I make a Lo-Fi, Folk Waltz on Cassette complete with Analog Drum Machine (Kraftwerk made me do it!) after a trip to the most beautiful place I’ve been in a while! 😍
