Coming soon is a full walkthrough of this beautiful forgotten over 200 year old house, which has sat vacant for the last 30 years! With a special guest, a close friend of the same family who has owned the house for the last century. Providing extra insightful local history on this place you would never read or find out online! While giving me an exclusive tour, as this is one of the plantations in Louisiana which is not open too the public!! Truly one of my favorite houses I’ve had the pleasure of documenting! Arlington was built around 1816-1820 by John Hampton white , but it’s history is quite murky. The architect who designed Arlington is unknown. But it bears a strong resemblance in design too Rosalie Plantation which was built for Peter little in 1823 and sits just down the street. It features many similar designs. Its design has historically been attributed to John Hampton White, but no documentation exists to validate the claim. The only thing that is documented is Lewis Evans, a wealthy Natchez planter, purchased the land on which Arlington stands in 1806. Here he started a plantation and built a house. In 1814 he sold a portion of the plantation containing his house to Jonathan Thompson, a land speculator. Thompson then promptly sold the Arlington property, which included the house built by Evans, to Mrs. Jane Surget White in December 1816. Jane White was the daughter of Pierre Surget, a French emigrant at the head of one of Natchez's leading families. John Hampton White died on October 15, 1819, during a yellow fever epidemic and his wife passed away a few years later in 1825.
