Off The Grid

Just 48 hours before the biggest event on the Strip, flash floods and heavy rain have swept through the city, threatening disruption to F1’s showpiece Grand Prix. Unprecedented rainfall for November shattered local records, flooding streets and causing last-minute logistical headaches across the neon-lit circuit and surrounding areas.

While the Las Vegas GP has been the centerpiece of Formula 1’s calendar for three years, nobody expected the desert to be battered by storms right before race weekend. Las Vegas, famous for its dry climate, simply isn’t prepared to handle prolonged rainfall, leading to concerns about drainage, access, and whether track conditions could pose a challenge for teams during setup, practice, and qualifying.

Despite the flood warnings, forecasts show that things should clear up for the main event, but rain is still in the mix for practice and qualifying. Expect cold temperatures and a soaked track, which could shake up tyre strategies and level the playing field for teams known to excel in cooler conditions like Mercedes.

F1’s crews, and fans, are keeping an eye on the skies as Vegas gears up for this season-defining showdown. The question remains: will the elements add even more drama to one of Formula 1’s most spectacular races?

The pressure is ON but Norris is keeping his cool after Sao Paulo: "They're just strong results, exactly what l need, exactly what I'm fighting for every single weekend... so very pleased, but it's still a long way to go.

No point getting too happy or excited just yet," he told the media when asked about his breathing space at the top. Sounds like someone who's got his eye on the prize and isn't letting the hype get to him.

Oscar Piastri, meanwhile, is still bullish about his shot at the crown: "I'd still rather be where I am than the other two. Definitely Max and Red Bull have found a lot of pace since the summer break, but things can still turn out well and I fully believe that I can win the championship," Piastri said, adding, "The thing that's going to help me win is getting the most out of myself, the car, and the team. Worrying about anyone else isn't my focus."

Max Verstappen is still mathematically in contention but being 49 points behind does need to win th last three with a healthy does of luck to win. When asked about his championship chances he said "we can forget about the championship" highlighting that it was to much to late with the team being "not good enough" at the beginning of the season.

With the points lead, Norris doesn't need to win the last three, but expect fireworks with Piastri and Verstappen vowing to take the fight to the very end.

Hear me out, a lot has been made over the years about Lando’s mental resilience, Piastri has been called the Iceman, unshakeable etc.

But every time something has happened to Lando this season, whether his brakes failing in China, crashing into Oscar in Canada or his engine blowing up in Zanvoort, he has pick himself up and got himself back into contention.

And when he needed to step it up and take the championship, he hasn’t faltered. He’s found a new gear and is looking in very good shape.

It’s easy to look calm and controlled when things are going well but when you have to keep restarting and rebuilding it takes something else.

My point here isn’t to put Oscar down, he has been very impressive this season.

But it’s to give Lando his props. He has been very consistent, not given up and is in great shape for the last 3 races.

What do you think?

Did You Know: The new fuel for the 2026 season will cost the teams on average $300 per Litre!

Formula 1 teams are concerned that the cost of the new 100% sustainable fuels, set to be introduced in 2026, could reach approximately $300 per litre, a tenfold increase from current prices around $22-33 per litre. This projected surge is attributed to the high costs associated with the development, manufacturing, and supply chain required to produce these specialized, green fuels from sources like carbon capture, waste, or biomass. The expense could significantly impact team budgets, despite not counting against the sport's cost cap.
