Look out for a new series, restored and uploaded. "Three in The Wild" follows the stories of three animals from birth to maturity. Produced in the 1980's by the team who brought you "Westcountry Tales" and written by Josephine Poole a writer based in Somerset. The format being anthropomorphic may be viewed as dated but is perhaps a good antidote to modern fast paced life - a great example of 'slow TV'. The photos here feature a press release from the original broadcast and the father and son production team, John & Simon King.

SERIES 2 is here! for the fans of 'Westcountry Tales' the final 7 episodes have been uploaded to the channel. 5PY Heritage is proud to have been able to make all the episodes available for a new generation of viewers. It is probably the only source of the drama in quality form and displays how a small regional television station could produce interesting television with a tiny budget - £6000 per episode. We must mention the evocative music written and performed by Anton Mullan definitely a class act. Anton started writing for TV in 1974 and specialised in childrens programmes . In 1976 a move to Bristol put him in touch with producer John King and it is believed that the sessions for Westcountry Tales were recorded at the former Redland Studios a popular venue at the time. The 5PY Heritage restorations have been made at a studio in Totnes, Devon not far from the original filming locations so we like to think the authentic local spirit has not been lost. Good news for fans of old drama. 5PY Heritage has restored the first season of WESTCOUNTRY TALES, so after a hiatus of more than 40 years the season can be watched again. The programmes have been restored with a new title sequence to better introduce the episodes. Many people have been asking for this, so 5PY Heritage is proud to have been able to deliver this fine series for a new audience and for many folks who might remember it the first time around. It is a tribute to the original producer/directors John King and Kevin Crooks whose creativity and talents brought together a fine team to produce this well regarded series on a shoestring budget. Look out for some new music posts . One features - Greg Vandike - from the family dynasty who created a famous club in the city.
The 'Van Dike Club' was a legendary music venue in Plymouth, operating from 1968 to 1972 in a converted church hall on Exmouth Road, Devonport . Founded by musician Peter Van Dike and his wife June Marlow, a celebrated singer, the family-run enterprise quickly became the heart of the city's music scene . While the intimate club hosted nearly 300 acts—including Pink Floyd, Jethro Tull, and Fleetwood Mac—its remarkable success was accelerated under the prescient musical guidance of Greg, Peter's son . Greg brought a keen ear for emerging talent to the booking policy . Following the club's closure after a notorious police raid, Greg continued promoting legendary gigs across Plymouth until 1980, bringing artists like David Bowie, Queen, and The Sex Pistols to the city . The Van Dike's intense four-year run and Greg's subsequent work cemented the family's enduring legacy in Plymouth's cultural folklore .
