A Letter of Thirty-Three Years
My Dearest Bamidele,
Happy Birthday, my love. On this beautiful day that celebrates your birth, my heart is overflowing. Thirty-three years of marriage, and yet, when I close my eyes, I am still nineteen, looking at a sixteen-year-old girl who held the entire world in her eyes. It feels like a lifetime ago, and simultaneously like it was only yesterday. How is it possible that more than three decades have passed, yet the sight of your smile still catches my breath the exact same way it did when we were just teenagers standing on the precipice of an unknown future?
We were so young when we started this journey. We didn't have a map, we didn't have a manual, and we certainly didn't know what the world would throw our way. But we had each other, and as it turns out, that was the only foundation we ever needed. Over the last thirty-three years, we have built a beautiful life together—a sanctuary of love, a family we cherish, and a bond that has weathered every season. Through every triumph and every challenge, you have been my anchor, my confidante, my greatest advisor, and my truest friend.
I look at the life we’ve created, the beautiful son we share, and the incredible journey of over forty years of knowing you, and I am overwhelmed by gratitude. Today, as we celebrate the gift of your life, I am reminded of how incredibly blessed I am to walk beside you. You have loved me with a patience that is divine and a strength that inspires me every single day. I am the man I am today because you believed in me when we were young, and you have never stopped believing in me since.
Thank you for being my partner in this grand adventure. Thank you for thirty-three years of laughter, of shared dreams, of quiet mornings, and of a love that only grows deeper with the passage of time. If I could go back to that nineteen-year-old boy, I would tell him to hold on tight, because the girl standing in front of him was going to give him a life more beautiful than he could ever possibly imagine.
May this new year of your life bring you endless joy, peace, and the fulfillment of every dream in your heart. Happy Birthday, my beautiful wife.
