Hello friends! We are pleased to say we have moved back home and been very productive the last few weeks! Mikey started working on a MwM bracket tournament a couple months ago. The idea was to take the winners of all the past Fav 5 MwMs and pit them against each other in a battle to the top. The first two episodes have been up for a while on Patreon, but now that he’s almost finished with Part 3 we’ll be releasing them every week starting this Thursday Nov 25, or Thanksgiving if you are American.

Hello friends. It’s been a while.
You may already be aware that this year has been ruthlessly unkind to us, and this is an update about all the happenings around here.
To briefly recap for newer subscribers: In January I got some bad dental work done. It’s taken almost this entire year to correct but I finally got it fixed in mid-August. In February we lost the house in the ice storm. We didn’t get an insurance adjuster assigned until March and then we found out insurance wouldn’t cover all the repairs we needed to make to our very old house. We ended up taking out a loan to renovate and construction started in May.
In the meantime, we have been living in a very non disability friendly apartment about 20 miles away from our house with office space across the street. When we came here, we definitely had starry eyed ambitious ideas about what this was going to be like. I didn’t think about things like how far "across the street" actually is for my partner with MS or how much time it would take out of my day to drive across town for doctor appointments, meetings with contractors and checking the PO box. Or how many times per week I’d have to make these trips. (Spoilers, it’s almost every day).
Mikey has been in MS relapse since we got here. In July, he fell and fractured his kneecap which added a new layer of complications to our already stressful situation and then two weeks after that he tested positive for covid despite being fully vaccinated. (I tested negative twice) Luckily his vaccine was effective enough that he didn’t experience life threatening symptoms, but it was still very stressful not knowing if he was going to take a sudden turn.
Between anxiety and near constant pain from my teeth and his knee, we have not slept all the way through a night in seven months.
Despite this, we think we’ve succeeded at remaining in good spirits, but we have failed tremendously at doing our jobs and it’s a miracle we finished any videos at all. This year has been financially devastating for us and it’s only through the grace of Patreon supporters and people who bought merch that Filmjoy will survive 2021. We are overwhelmed by your support and feel like we will never be able to repay the generosity you all have shown to us this year.
The good news is that our house is done and we are moving home next week. Mikey will be able to start physical therapy, I won’t have to spend two hours a day running errands and we are very much looking forward to settling back into our old routine and focusing on creating content and doing what we love.
So, here’s where we are at right now in Filmjoy land:
The return of Deep Dive is imminent. Battleship is almost done, and I am working hard to get this to you before we move next week. We definitely did not expect this episode to take 6 months to edit but we hope you think it’s worth the wait!
Mikey is working on a MwM Fav 5 bracket tournament. This will be a 3-part video where he will take all the films covered in his Fav 5 videos over the last 7 years, revisit them with a 2021 lens and declare a winner. The first episode is already up on Patreon. When the series is complete, we will be releasing it back to back for three weeks to hopefully appease the algorithm gods.
We are also having a 25% off everything sale at catawampus.ink until September 13 when we have to pack everything up and move.
This year has been bad so far but we’re almost on the other side of it and hope we can finish strong. We know we missed a lot of good movies in the fray so drop your favorite movies of 2021 in the comments so we can check out anything we missed before Fav 5 of 2021 in January!

First of all thank you all so much for the love and support you’ve give us the last two months while we’ve been trying to navigate the situation with our house. We don’t think we would have survived this without you. We’re sorry for not being around as much but we’ve just been struggling to juggle everything.
We’ve been working the last month on a MwM about the career of M. Night Shyamalan.
We were asked to participate in a playlist Cult Popture was putting together and Mikey had a lot to say about Shyamalan so we jumped at the opportunity. This is one of the more massive MwMs at a hefty 37 minutes long and the video will be out ✨on Friday ✨!
Which is also Mikey’s birthday, so if you want to get him a birthday present, please make this video a success by liking, commenting, and sharing!
We’ve already agreed that this will be our last “big” video until we are back home because doing this one from our temp office/ apartment was extremely taxing on Mikey mentally and physically. The next few episodes of MwM will be the traditional single movie 15-20 min format.
We settled with insurance and we hope repairs on the house will be done by late July so we can get back to normal.
Hey everyone, We've talked about this quite a bit on Patreon and social media, but for those unaware we lost our house mid-February during the ice storm in Texas. As we are sure you can imagine this has been devastating for us and the reason why we haven't had a new video out in the last few weeks. We found a temp work space and got settled into a new apartment last week so we were able to finish up the MwM on Howl's Moving Castle we started before this disaster. The episode will be out in about one hour! We encourage everyone to watch and give it a like or comment to help us appease the almighty algorithm. We also just reopened our store catawampus.ink and have a new version of the Fight Less Talk More t-shirt available now. We're having to pay a mortgage on a house we can't live in, and rent in an apartment and double power and utility bills and our insurance company has been extremely unhelpful so now would be a fantastic time to buy a shirt or pin from us if you are in the market! Our Patreon is patreon.com/movieswithmikey if you are into that. We have a fun Patreon discord server that we are very active in, and we do editing live streams once a month.
Despite everything, we have remained in good spirits and are thankful we didn't lose our work computers or sentimental items like photos. We're happy we are more or less adjusted to our new normal and excited to resume working. Before the storm, we were set to film a Deep Dive, which has obviously been pushed back but we are excited to say we can make it work in the apartment and we will be filming something very soon.
