Hereโ€™s a take on Pop Goes the Diesel that Iโ€™ve thought for a while.

The opening plays out the same way, Duckโ€™s proud of being great western & meets Diesel. Itโ€™s when they get to the yards where things play out differently. Duck keeps asking him questions like โ€œwho built himโ€ or โ€œwhat experience does he have as a shunterโ€. Diesel explains to Duck how diesels know everything and come to a yard to improve it, dubbing himself as "revolutionary". Duck shrugs it off as boasting and tell diesel that on Sodor itโ€™s important to learn where everything goes, despite him thinking he didnโ€™t need to learn, Diesel allowed Duck to show him what to do. The two start shunting the yards pushing trucks into their siding. A little while later, Duck ask Diesel to pick up some trucks from the left track for a goods train leaving later, Diesel does so but what Duck failed to mention is that the trucks he needed were near the shed, the trucks Diesel was collecting were on the out of use siding. Diesel coupled up to some trucks and started pulling them (Of course this plays like in the original story). After pulling and tugging on the trucks Diesel hears a voice โ€œWHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING?โ€ It was Duck, Diesel said that he was picking the trucks from the left track, Duck argued that it was the other left, not the out of use siding. After a bit of arguing, Duck decided to leave it to miscommunication and thatโ€™s on him. Both start cleaning the mess when the trucks start singing โ€œPop Goes the Dieselโ€, Duck just tells him to ignore them, but the singing continued until Diesel had enough, he blamed Duck for causing his embarrassment and wanted to pay him of. The rest is history.
